If a person of homosexual orientation were cloned, would the clone still be homosexual? It would be interesting to see if homosexuality is biological or environmental. Personally, I think it's biological, although if that's the case, wouldn't there be a gene that defines that characteristic? Would people eventually be "edited" out of it? Is that ethical? Is that Natural? Have you not learned from the corpses of your bretheren?

I really don't believe that cloning in and of itself is ethical in the first place. I've always felt that homosexuality is a result of environment, perversion, or choice. Either way, cloning scares me and I hope to never live to see a human be cloned...although I have the feeling that my fears will soon enough become a reality. the wise man has eyes in his head, while the fool walks in the darkness;
but i came to realize that the same fate overtakes them both.

Gender and sexuality are biological although both can be repressed or twisted to "prove" that the opposite is true.I dont think its ethical and definatly not natural to change genetics like that unless there is open consent for the operation.Children should not be made to order. Work is of two kinds: first, altering the position of matter at or near the earth's surface relatively to other such matter; second, telling other people to do so.

it would be interesting i supose, but i've always been queasy about cloning. both with the potential horrors of it from my own overactive imagination [i.e. mutations] and the dangers of corporations getting their paws on the process.
other than that, what red said. have you seen my marbles?

wow, cool topic. hrmmm. *scratches head*
First to address: "Is it ethical? Is it natural?" I think we're diluted to think that anything humans do is truly natural. We eat cooked meat, not at the temp of fresh kill, we chemically engineer medicines, we smoke (have you seen any rabbits or squirrels lighting up? I haven't.) Animals don't wear clothes, drive cars. Nothing we do is natural, so to not do something simply because it is unnatural is hypocritical.
I think homosexuality is part biological but mostly circumstantial. My sister is a lesbian. She has a disease where her periods are irregular and she can't have children. She had to take drugs for this and has a very masculine build. We took karate, and both of us waged war on our father constantly. She simply has had so many negative experiences with men that the idea of sexual contact with one of them disgusts her. So I think a cloned homosexual who grows up differently will not be completely homosexual. something clever so people will think I'm cool...
naw, just kidding...
She tells me that she's cold with a cigarette in her hand,
And I say, "You think I'm not?" but she does not understand,
And I'd love to swing my fist around to meet that perfect cheek,
But I love her in a way, and yes, I'm altogether weak...

i think sexuality, personality, ethos are all things that should be left to chance... it is unethical to even try and find a way to change that genetically in a person... ___Nick_the_Rogue___ To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Im fairly sure that homosexuality is mostly environmental, there may be small genetic influences, but if you think about it gay people are going to have little/no children so any gay genes would not be reproduced and die out.

It probubly would be homosexual because if a homosexual would be cloned it would be interested in the same sex.But there is a 5 out of 100 chance that a gay person will reproduce another person. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

I agree that genetically creating a person is unethical, not to mention bad for the gene pool. It's interesting that most people think that homosexuality is mainly circumstansual. If a human clone was created, would it have a soul/would it be ethically sound to destroy it one it reached counciousness? Have you not learned from the corpses of your bretheren?

I think homosexuality is enviromental. I have nothing against cloning per se, as long as the cloned child is allowed to grow up in a normal adopted family. When people talk of the freedom of writing, speaking or thinking I cannot choose but laugh. No such thing ever existed. No such thing now exists; but I hope it will exist. But it must be hundreds of years after you and I shall write and speak no more.

If a clone of yourself were created so that you were able to harvest it's bodyparts to replace yours if you were to have an accident, would you? This is one of the best uses of cloning according to scientists. Personally, I'm not sure I would - if he were calking up and about, but if they managed to clone, say, a kidney that I needed, and not the whole body, I might since there are unlikely to be donors with a compatible organ.... I think I'll tackle the homosexuality argument first.
Firstly, genetically, I think everyone is bisexual.
Any restraint or deviation from this is merely circumstantial.
Preference, etc., is left to societal influence on what is beautiful or desirable.
And about cloning... eh, I don't know whether or not it is ethical. I personally don't know where I stand yet on the issue. Bismarck once said "Fools say they like to learn from their experiences, but I prefer to learn from the experience of others."
"Move that one of your pieces, which is in the worst plight, unless you can satisfy yourself that you can derive immediate advantage by an attack." -Adolph Anderssen To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater.
