I went to a party with some friends I knew from college the other day, and hadnt seen in quite some time. As I talked to them and related to them my plans to make money and start up businesses and become wealthy by the time i am 30, they acted like i had just kicked thier family dog or something and made sure to let me know that they didnt need money, that they were happy being comfortable, and that they woudlnt ever want to be rich.

I have been seeing this attitude ALL over the place now that I am looking for it, from many close people I know. What the hell is that? Whats wrong with wanting to be rich and wanting to have lots of money?

It is called complacency. A person envies wealth and starts seeing that they will never accumulate it and so they begin to believe that they can live comfortably within thier own income range.

Some people are actually scared; either that or fucking hippies.

This thing is creeping me the fuck out. EVERYONE I know is like this now that I think about it for the most part. I am about to start up several small businesses with the goal in mind to become financially independant by the time i am 30 years old. Telling my "friends" this apparently is offensive ot them and they dont want to talk about it, and if they do its because they think i am greedy or i am going to lose my soul.

i think you need to go out and do your own thing. if you want to become rich and wealthy that is your own wanting and doing. why should that matter what anyone else happens to think about it on what you are wanting to do? it's your life.. you either do it or don't do it.

Poverty as of yet has kept me alive. Wealth I fear, would open the doors to an over indulgence so severe, that I am sure within two weeks, I would be decomposing in a shallow grave. My body rendered unto humus, would give life to flowers and grass, and maybe even corn, if it were planted over my final resting place.

you use commas way too much. And money would save you if you have a drug problem, its when you dont have money that drugs become a problem.

Now, in an act of clarification I would like to explain that my post was making a statement concerning my lack of will power, and the detrimental cause and effect wealth may have on the circumstances of my life.

Your lack of will power will harm you be you rich or poor. At least if youre rich you will have some credit and you wont end up homeless.

True that. Homelesness has always been a horrifying aspect of poverty for me. I would never wish it upon myself. I have met those who have glorified the transient lifestyle. I had confessed to them that I require a higher standard of living, and a computer connection. So in essence, maybe I should redirect my approach to this message. I feel that in order for my life to continue in a satisfactory direction, I will not want too little, or too much. A balance if you will.

Balance, = wanting little. Wanting little = too scared to dare to try and make more. What are you REALLY afraid of? Trying and failing?

I guess psychologically, the fear lies within taking the first step. Success is a road paved with hard work and determination. Commitment and passion are landmarks along the way.

The fear of failure can be overwhelming. Evoking reservations that stifle the want for accomplishment. I think that is why people myself included, pass by the opportunities that could mean the difference between wage slavery or financial independence.

Not really. And if people are not equal its because of whats going on in thier brain (ie they keep themselves poor) not what the guy down the road is making. Corruption... hmm theres more corrupt civil servants and people in shit jobs who make less than 50 grand a year then Rich people doing the same. Why do you fear wealth for real? I doubt you would turn down a check for 10 million dollars if i offered it.

I really dont know, personally I dont like the idea of having alot of money. I have considered alot of options for the future and most of them involve using the skills to make money. On the other hand I could use the skills that I have to help other people and make money on the side.
Money isnt that important to me, tell you the truth I am still young but the idea of money isnt very prominant in my plans for my future, the Idea is happyness. I want to have the money to get buy and after that help others beacuse that is where I belive that happiness comes from, the well being of others. Life isnt about money its just paper reinforced with gold somwhere, do I care? (not really) Ill admit that I have been a hippie at times but I am not really like that any more, the idea is that a person is more important than a peice of paper connected to a peice of metal. Honestly the happieness that is produced by making more for myself is menial in comparison to the amount of happiness that can be given to me by giving another person help or direction.
Depending on youre beliefs, money can be more or less important, if you believe that after this life you die and its over by all means make all the money you can beacuse that is all you will ever be worth. I think this issue goes much deeper than just the desire to make money or the desire to live simlply. Personally simpliciy makes me happy, the idea that I dont have hundreds of things to do is comforting. Money being a lil tight dosent bother me just as long as I can help afford smokes and tend to my garden. Prioritys, prioritys, everybodys are a-lil different if you want money then by all means go for it but dont intrude on those simple folk, they have goals for the world!

People who tell me money isnt important to them tell me that they havent had to live on thier own yet away form thier mommy and daddy. And anyone who thinks they can help people more while being broke, than while being rich is an idiot. It blows my mind the sterotypes people have for those who are wealthy. Do you HONESTLY believe that people with money are LESS happy then the schmucks too afraid to try and make any? Let me clue you in, youre right, moeny dont make happiness, but niether does working 80 horus a week. Luckily if you have money though you have the choice of if you want to work or if you want to take long vacations with your loved ones.

dont be so shure, Ive seen it done and it has given me alot of inspuration. I dont want to get into family issues with you but just beacuse I live with mommy and daddy at this point dosent mean that I will forever and personally, I am not going to be making mad cash.
This I know, I am not made for this. I think you have a point but not everybody can be rich, and there is a such thing as socical humility in my mind. Simplicity prevails, you dont need a million things. What costs money is the things people convince themselves they need but in actuallity do not.
In honesty, I dont want anything. In a couple months Ill be 18 I havent a car, or any expense whatsoever, minus 40 dollars a month for a cell phone. I know what I can and cannot do, the balance makes me happy and seeing others pull it off is bliss for me. You dont need material things to make you happy, I got belifs and that is enough for me, money is a plus. Thats my future man, and its has nothing else to it beacuse, in truth, Im not going anywhere. Ive come to admit this, but if anything else I can bring joy and possibly spread what I belive to others and to me that is what really matters.
Regardless of what you think, or if you think youre exprences make you superior, this is my decision and my opinion and most of all my life and direction. Buzz off, I dont need youre meteralistic attitude.

simplicity is for peoiple who are simple minded. You can be humble and rich. I take it youre just scared to death of any potential or hard work you would have to put forth to become wealthy. Ans since you live wiht mommy and daddy you dont know what it means to pay bills so you have no concept of moneys true worth. You will.
