define the difference of "addiction" and "addiction to manmade drugs". im not getting the hint that you know what you are talkin about.

addiction is a general term that can pertain to anything from sex (nymphomania) to cocktail parties (socialclimania)... i believe that there can be a sort of genetic predisposition towards a general addiction and the individual fills in the blank from there with their specific choice of addicting behavior...

whereas with addiction to a manmade drug is a specific addiction caused by tolerance and dendency stimuli that occurs after an initial consumption (IE not connected with genetic predisposition)...

you layed out the groundwork of a specific addiction as opposed to the general form of predisposition (which i am will to sanction as having genetic connotations)... THAT is the differance

my opinion.... clear minded. Your mind needs to work on its own and draw its own conclusions.... drugs take over and make their own.

drugs are not concious and thusly should not be personified as to "take over and make its own"

errantrogue, are you an addiction specialist? if you are, you should look into another profession. and in defense of montana, the drugs effects on the mind may be so great, that they can be labeled as "taking over and making their own conclusions". they breed anxiety and paranoia.

ok, when concerning addictions......i agree that using "manmade drugs" does not so much entail a genetic, or whatever, type of addiction, but if that is the case then what about non-manmade drugs? for example alcoholism is considered genetic, which could be explained through evolution and what not seeing how alcohol is one of the oldest drugs known to man.....anyway, does this mean that in years to come there might be "marijuanism?"

I do not take drugs because i know they would kill me.I feel so alone in this world,depressed and sad,so drugs are probably a way how to get out of here for a time,and for a person that takes reality too serious and can not produce any phantasies it is probably better to take drugs.But I dont make it,because its important to feel all the pain falling on us.I hope so...

alcoholism can be caused by the combination of genetic predisposition and unchecked alcohol consumption... one of these is related to genetics (guess!) and one of them is related to circumstance and free will...

i know two seperate persons who do not touch alcohol because the predisposition exists in their families... that is a concious choice to avoid the second half of my above statement...

clear minded for most. but if i'm writing or drawing and get a block, then i use em a bit to get creative. thats only once every so months...

For my own personal thinking I prefer to do it without drugs. I'm not saying I haven't done my fair share of drugs or drinking, but I do look back at the decisions I made while high/drunk and I know if I had been sober I never would have done them. Besides, at the moment drug induced thinking is not an option for me.

Humans are aware for a reason, why throw that away. besides if you're going to screw up or doing something you wouldn't normally, wouldn't you rather be able to experience it fully as you might not be in the same sit. again. I prefer drug free

i hated how i thought when i was on drugs. everything i thought was so smart and insightful was in actuallity really stupid and moronic.

I happen to be content with my reality as it is, and therefore do not need to off-set my perception in order to see things the way that I like them. I choose clean. And on addiction, addiction occurs when a stimulus is over-used. Normally, the pleasure center of the brain is where the stimulus is registered and experienced. If a pleasure is over-indulged in, it's receptors are moved into the memory center of the brain. This is what causes cravings. The brain, and therfore the body, can remember the pleasure that a certain stimulus produces, and make a person seek after it like they would food. Absolutely ANY pleasure causing stimulus can be addictive. On the genetic basis of addiction, it is there, but not in force. A person may have a genetic predispostion to dependant personality disorder. Or they may have a predisposition to be irresponsible. Alcohol has been around long enough that certain families have a gene that has information regarding the affects of alcohol on it. So they do have a predispostion to enjoy alcohol more, and therefore to use it more.
