You know absolutely nothing about what you're talking about, a fact that becomes clearer with every post you make. Medicines do not simply appear by accident. Scientists who have spent their lives studying these fields of science have to find these drugs, then they have to spend years testing them for all possible side effects and uses. These prices- they're not insane and unfair in most cases. They're that way to support the livelihood of the people making them. You're so fucking concerned about victims of obscure diseases, but you don't seem to give a shit if the people devoted to curing those victims make enough to keep their families from starving.
Why are there so many ignorant people on this forum? When people talk of the freedom of writing, speaking or thinking I cannot choose but laugh. No such thing ever existed. No such thing now exists; but I hope it will exist. But it must be hundreds of years after you and I shall write and speak no more.

But actually I know that their fridges had been empty only when they were delivered.
I really don't know what you are talking about.
I admit that I know very little about medicine, but I can see what is happening around: The rich people will be richer, and there won't be any future for the others.

O.k. lets straighten this out
Pharmaceutical companies have to hire chemists/doctors/lawyers/researchers to do trials/get patents. Doctors do not spend 11+ years of their lives being hammered with more knowledge than most of us are capable of, on top of retaining/paying 30+Grand a year in tuition for med school so that they can be paid the same amount as someone who works at Mcdonalds. This would be stupid and if you have a doctor who does work for 5.15 an hour, you should probably switch because if he's not intelligent enough to look after himself and more then likely he probably isnt the person you want taking care of you.
Secondly after a pharmacetical company receives a patent on a drug they must define it's uses, then they have to produce it. I believe the patent entitles them to 7 years exclusive rights to a product under its trade name (i.e. BAYER aspirin), after the 7 years are up they still can produce it but everyone else gets to jump in with generic equivalants.
And as far as the rich people you're referring to, if they get rich it's by their own genuine account. do you like nazis? do you like waffles? Then have we got a restaraunt for you! | |

Research is definately domne on disease with fewer than 200 sufferers. Often because these rare disease reveals the structure of systems in a way that normal function does not. e.g. the 'bubble boys' with negligible immune systems are very closely studied. | |

You'd be pretty deluded if you thought that. China's improving, mostly because it's _abandoning_ Communism, but it's still far from being strong economically relative to it's size.
far from a strong economy? they are third in the world, and in years they will surpass japan, and i thought china was said to be the next hyprepower country of the world, relatively soon too....so far, america is the only hyperpower.....
here is a little bit of interesting information, there is small town in russia (i think) which grows somekind of mushroom or something, anyway, it is not marketable but it is enormous medicinal purposes....it was on like 60 minutes or some shit not too long ago and they were saying how these people with certain types of cancer and other diseases took this shit and within days were cured.... | |

I fucking hate doctors. Some know what the hell they r doing. And then u get the assholes who think they know, but really dont. They love to tell someone "its in ur mind". Like they did with my 2 cuzin who died from a heart attack. And like when i had my chest pains-heart attack type thing. And my sister has like 2 sis on her pituitary glands and for years they would just give her meds to help the headaches...Until she almost fucking died and they finally got there asses together. That poor thing that to go throw years and years of pain. And finally now she is doing pretty damn good. So yes i fucking hate doctors. For almost killing my sister. And just for being fucking assholes. So docotrs r saviors and killers...I think. | |

First of all, your basic facts are wrong. China isn't third in terms of the size of their economy. They're seventh. They're behind Italy. And I said relative to their size. China loses by a long shot there. Germany has maybe, maybe 1/20 the number of people that China does, but their economy is twice as large. Let's not even go into the size of China's economy before they got Hong Kong back. And size aside, their economy is not very strong either. They're not in the G8 because their economy isn't stable or self-sufficent. That Japan thing sounds highly skeptical to me as well. Japan's GP is something like 4 trillion a year, whereas China's is less than 1 trillion. It'd take a complete rebuilding of the country for them to beat Japan at any point in the next fifty years, much less five.
The term, btw, is "superpower", not "hyperpower". Quote: |

| I failed to find anything on Google to second this. Can you give me some more information on your source, here? Doctors are 'practicing medicine' for a start. They don't know it all, it's up to us to know our bodies better. Own your problems and research them yourself as well as seeking professional help. If you don't agree with the doctor go to another, they are not gods. In Afghanistan at the moment doctors receive far less then a beautician. Unbelievable but true.
Pharmaceutical companies are a different matter. Much research covers a spectrum of diseases and many drug effects are 'stumbled over'. The new stem cell research will be of aid in a multitude of scenarios. The problem being if they do find a 'cure' for eg/ cancer, aids, they will loose masses of revenue for research and on the chemotherapy drugs they are using now.
Many drugs produced are derivatives of natural remedies which they use chemical alternative to and charge accordingly, at the same time discrediting the natural sources, which of course are cheaper.
More people are going 'under the knife' while in a meditative state instead of having general anaesthetic but this is not promoted. Why? Meditation and laughter have been proved to work in recovery but not promoted. Why?

There's no money in it. | Can you not see that pharmeceutical researchers are also just people -- often with good motives, who are not perfect? It is also largely not a high-paying field given that you pay high fees to train in it for 10-15 years. If they just wanted money there are far better career choices. | |

--- Who said China is improving. There has been massive ghettos of urbanised peasants without rights to healthcare or education -- a few massively rich crooks, and a bunch of people in the country living the same way they have for centuries. They only reason the basic lifestyle is OK in most rural areas is because of the massive infrasturcture for healthcare, roads electricity etc left over from the maoists. | |

Cannibalism rates are down. I'd call that improvement. Improvement doesn't mean that their current state of life is acceptable. Cannibalism had to do with a famine -- they happen under either regime, and neither was good at accessing or distributing aid. | |

Just mostly about some doctor who got sued cuz he killed someone. And how they just put everything off and tell u to go to other places. Shit like that. U should have watched it, it would have ended this thread! | |

So the blame is on the researchers? Aren't they a necessary evil? Won't we eventually benefit more from funding them than we would if we witheld funds? Have you not learned from the corpses of your bretheren? | |

I went to the Dr on Friday. He looked so sick. Red eyed, a real mess. I asked him if he was okay and he said he'd been working 12 days straight and would have to work the following day too. Luckily I just tell him what I want and he does it or I'm sure he wouldn't have given a shit. He was so jaded and angry. Anyway I went up to his surgery yesterday (his 13th straight day) and dropped off a Jade plant (I grow exotic succulents) to the receptionist to pass onto him. Didn't bother telling her who it was from (he wouldn't have remembered me anyway). I wonder if he'll notice the irony? I really hope it'll make him feel a little better. Yep doctors are human.
