Love and Grace pt. 1

"I'll follow you till the day I die," Were the key words of our
relationship. That is until she left me alone in the dark. Now I'm
pushing 85 on the freeway, struggling to preserve what little time I
had left by never sleeping. My source was energy drinks and
determination. Funny thing, we never look at how we've lived until
death come staring at us and hunting us down. I was dying so young for
only being twenty-nine and there was just one last thing to do in this
existence. I had to hold her just once more, I needed to be reminded of
her taste just one last time.
I was once told that depression couldn't kill and now I was
living the last of my days out on the road trying to stop her from
making a life threatening mistake. The weeks before I had seen a doctor
who was shocked by my bizzar condition. "No drug in the world could
cure you son... I'm sorry but your case has never existed before so
therefor we couldn't save you even if we tried," He said to me with
those sad eyes I remembered. I was a hopeless case even though
technically I was in still good health.
I reached the jersey turnpike and began to push my car to
ninety mile per hour. As soon as the speed picked up I felt my heart
began to slow. "So close..." I spoke as my impending death was drawing
near but I wasn't quite ready. I looked over head and saw the clouds
begin to darken, With a smile I said, "Almost a perfect day to die."
With a trip from one end of the country to the other had
required few stops for drinks and gas. The trip took the longest to
plan as I needed a definate route figured out that was quick and
inexpensive. The trip was worth it though, as the miles seemed to pass,
they passed like memories of my childhood. Now I came to realization
that even the smallest thing meant so much or maybe that was just
because death was coming. If there was ever a time to pray I knew now
was the time as I whispered, "Please god, Just a few more moments.. If
you have any mercy can you just let me have enough time to hold her and tell
her I love her?"
At times I wondered if he even listened to me, For all I knew
he never even welcomed me into his house. He knew me as he knew all
others for their deeds and their sins. I guess this was just my
punishment for all the self destruction I tried when I was younger.
as I entered the town I was supposed to go to a memory kicked
in from the back of my mind. The memory was of the end of that
relationship. I forced myself to stop infront of pawn shop letting the
memory run it's course out of my mind. The memory was so strong I could
hear the words of the fight. True the fight was the Primary reason for
the break up but deep beneith it all she had made a change for the
worse. It never mattered to me because I forgave her.
After the memory faded and I regain my composure I got out of
my car looking at the pawn shop. The sign in the window promoted gun
sales and a smiled flew across my face as I knew this time there was no
way around the use of force. As I entered I caught the glimpse of a gun
of high caliber. A desert eagle with a white oak handle screamed out to
me immediately. My fingers lightly traced over the handle and then a
gentle whisper echoed in my mind, "Please Cornel don't do this... I
don't want to see you get hurt... I'll be safe I promise" Her voice was
still as perfect as ever and still held that burn that made me smile.
As soon as I heard her voice I reached into my trench coat's
lining pocket to remove a wedding invitation. It was the only thing
that still convinced me that this was what I needed to do. If all else
failed then she would atleast have heard my opinion and would never
need to wonder. She sent it with the most pleading of letters to me in
hopes that I would make it and possibly talk her out of it. I would do
a bit more than talk, I would act.
I could never deny my devotion to her, My actions throughout my
past had proved that there was little to nothing I would do for her. In
a sense today would be the day that my actions would either redeem me
or send me to hell.

Love and grace pt. 2 - 02-21-08

As I wiped the blood from my face I came to a realization that
at times in our human existence we wonder how we sustain everything in
our souls that keep up sane and not commence in acts of hate distain
and torment. The answer was simple for me, I always had something to
keep me held down. Pride, love, hell anything that gives us pleasure
can easily hold us down.
I could never lie as I stood over that clerk, I had second
guessed everything I was doing up till I shot him. When I did that it
seemed like everything was about to fall apart. the only thing keeping
me going was the fear of letting her be part of a man's life. A man who
would surely abuse her in ways that would be unforgivable even in hell.
I won't say that I'm exactly the perfect angel but this man was the
devil compared to me.
Once my foot made contact with the side walk outside the pawn
shop, The rain began to down pour. The revolver felt a bit heavy in my
pocket but nothing my body couldn't sustain. I smiled feeling the rain
hit my body and said, "Now it's a perfect day... What more could a
dying man ask for other than more time?"
I looked at the time realizing it had to be in the afternoon
around the time of Chelsea's wedding. My eyes had widened when the time
showed that the wedding had already started. I saw cop cars began to
turn towards the pawn shop. I never realized the clerk pressed the
silent alarm button to alert the police. "Great..." I said getting into
my car and speed down the streets towards the church. The time it took
to drive across country gave me ample time to come to the conclusion of
how far I would go for her. When I looked into my rearview mirror I saw
more cop cars coming after me. "Well it looks like I'm a wanted man..."
I said in a whisper.
I paid no attention to the traffic lights or sirens behind me.
My life was ending in moments anyways so what would the law matter to
me? Nothing broke through my focus on the job at hand except that a
memory kicked in at full force on my soul just as I rounded a corner.
The emotional impact broke me down to tears though I kept my composure
enough to drive. The tears faded and the memory ended just as fast as
it came. Once again my heartbeat began to slow. The only thing that
reminded me I was alive was the blur of houses.
The church suddenly came into view and a smile rolled across my
lips. "Can't touch me once I get inside..." I whispered coughing a bit.
As I looked down at my hand blood was now coming up from my coughs.
"Great just what I need... A reminder..." I said parking as close to
the entrance as possible. My door flew open and I made my way up the
stairs to the front door. As I reached the door I heard the cops order
me to freeze but I paid no mind to them.
I entered the church and heard no shots fire behind me but
instead heard the words that coincided with the wedding, "If anyone has
any objections to these two being wed speak now or forever hold your
peace."
My voice though weak from my death now within minutes away
spoke loud enough to be heard, "I would like to object..." I don't
think there wasn't a single set eyes that weren't fixed on me, but
seeing as a soaking stranger just walked in and interupted a wedding I
didn't blame them for staring. Once again my words broke through the
silence in the church, "Chelsea... He doesn't deserve you... He doesn't
even deserve to be happy with all that he has done and will do to
you..."
I made my way slowly forward towards the alter but stopped When
I noticed the man standing next to her reaching into his pocket. "I
wouldn't pull that out Nick..." I warned in a cold voice. It was a
voice I hadn't used in so long it was even scary to me but Nick decided
that I wasn't a threat. Once he drew out his gun I withdrew mine from
my pocket. The priest stood their in horror as he saw two men draw
weapons on each other in the house of god.
"Why should I be afraid of you now? I never miss Cornel..."
Nick said and then fired one bullet but it missed. "Neither do I Nick"
I said pulling the trigger fast. We both dropped our guns but Nick was
the first person to hit the floor. As the blood flowed out from his
neck he closed his eyes letting himself die. Chelsea looked at me in
horror and then in worry as I began to fall to my knees. "God forgive
me..." I whispered. My life was now being revealed infront of my eyes
and in the end of it I saw what looked like an angel holding me.
"Why come so far only to just give up and die on me?" Chelsea
asked holding me close. The tears in her eyes fell onto my body
reminding me I only had a little bit of time to tell her what I needed
to say to her.
"Because Chel... I'm already dead..." I said with a weak smile.
I felt the pain begin to amplify tremendously and sent my body into a
shiver. Her eyes widened when she felt my body begin to get colder,
"Why did you come so far to protect me Cornel? I thought you hated me?"
My black eyes looked up at hers. Her eyes were the color of the
ocean after a storm, That all too familiar color that could tame that
wild fire in my soul." I never hated you... I only loved you... I
wanted to protect you from the devil in Nick... I'm sorry to leave you
like this but know that... I... love... you..." My voice faded on the
last word and my eyes that held only a bit of life in them before we
now a complete hollow portal.
Before my soul completely left my body I heard the words that
meant so much even though they were so simple to for everyone else to
hear, "I truely love you Cornel..."
Not one person could explain what happened after that, The
light had broken through the clouds for just thirty seconds and it was
bright enough to shine through the stained glass window that was shaped
in a cross. That cross shined down on my body and Chelsea couldn't help but smile even though she cried. She didn't cry out of sorrow, quite the opposite. She cried because she was happy that I finally landed in the grace of god.

The End

(Disclaimer: I don't promote killing people under any circumstances and this was just a brief story I wrote while I was bored in Job Corps)

For being my first story I must say it's really impressive...

The grammar could use some work and the story is a little sappy but over all it's a good first try and I think you should keep writing.
