I hope this thread to be useful for all the AD&D fans. Here I think we can share experiences and adventures, for Dungeon Masters and Players.
For example, I want to create an entire long story for my players, I have many books of AD&D, campaigns etc to get enough information for it. I would like my story to be long and difficult so the players will have to play a lot of parallel "short" stories to earn treasures, magic items, experience and level so they can face the final hard issues. As in Baldur's Gate saga they could choose diferent jobs and adventures to get those things and improve their characters. Alright, but I am open to get some advice for my Campaigns to be better, things like "What if they waste a lot of time in villages" or "what to do if they don't know where to go or what to do though I have thought in everything"... etc.
Ok... by the way... you can get AD&D pdf files at this link: http://www.fosfoman.com/download/DownDnD.htm
Hope you all enjoy! A truth, a death... To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

I don't think any1 wants to admit it..
Personally I haven't had much experience with playing ad&d..more a wod player myself.
..
the little story I was in I played an obesive mage/ pyromaniac
..that was fun..
untill he had to crawl through this very very tight (for him) tunnel to reach a goblin kingdom his partymembers started to exterminate..when finally on the other side..first thing I did was walk to the king ..(somehow the others didn't see him) and asked if I could sit down..after the thousand goblins managed to capture and bind the other party members I won a chess game and was given as reward the treasure we set out to find in the first place..

That's good... the chess game, as a sorcerer you did very well. That had to become a lot of XP points for you and maybe for your party too for make your way to the king easier. Though maybe they didn't even know what the hell you were doing sitting there with the king.Hehehe.
I think one of the most important things for Mages and Clerks is to learn their spells very well, so the game is easier to take. When I say "learn" I mean to learn HOW to use them too... that's when a mage or a clerk are very useful in the game, otherwise they usually become useless. (Mages throwing balls of fire here and there everywhere affecting the party too...etc).
About spells I could say the basic way to take a situation is to throw balls of fire or toxic clouds where the party is far from the enemies, and when they are not just throw single acid arrows or so, and maybe defend yourself with a reflection aura or something like that. I recommend lots of miniatures. As in whole armies of monsters and NPC's.
In fact, you could have the adventure set in war time where the party members try to avoid the draft.... That will keep them from spending too much time in villages and towns.
In fact, this would be a great campaign for Rogues.
Another thought is that the party discovers an enemy spy network. This too would be a good campaign for rogues. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. Weird also, anyway I'm trying, for example, something more classic, adventurers in a vast vast vast world, millions of little adventures, one far goal for them all to reach. You know.
Anyway the monsters compendium is enough, I think, to create characters from monsters. A truth, a death... To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

My gaming group, however has completely switched to 3rd Edition. It's been great, so far. Alot easier to use than 2nd edition, and it makes my cleric kick serious ass! ...the cat on velvet pattens stole along the quiet hill. "And this" she whispered "Nephew, is the way to stalk your kill..."

Isn't it, though?
Currently, we're playing in our "Wounded Earth" campaign setting. I'm playing my chaotic good Human (mostly) Fighter/ Sorceress, Aidan. She's still involved with Longtooth's Fighter/Rogue (Neutral Evil) And still going to get her heart broken.
I'm also rolling up a Priest for a new campaign we're starting on Wednesday nights.. We'll be playing the module "Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil." Should be a great game! ...the cat on velvet pattens stole along the quiet hill. "And this" she whispered "Nephew, is the way to stalk your kill..."

Yeah, I like chaotic good Half-elf priest characters, most of all, but I don't play much as a Player Character, most of times in AD&D I'm the DM.
I know enough about Ravenloft Campaign setting, but I have never played it, always in Krynn, Dragonlance, you know, and I'm thinking about preparing a campaign in Forgotten Realms, in Faerun, I think it's a more serious world. But of course I would like to know some more about the secrets of Ravenloft.
Maybe we could play here some adventure or maybe show each other adventures to play with our friends. A truth, a death... To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

I've played in Ravenloft a few times. I like the setting well enough, but we had a less-than-stellar DM running it. Luckily for my players (who hate Ravenloft with a passion) I don't use it very often. I'm too fond of making up my own cosmology for the worlds I create to buy into TSR's big marketing ploy to make everything interconnect.
"Who would win if Raistlin and Elminster got into a fight?" Who cares, they don't exist. Just concern yourself with how quickly the undead God-King Alloka'ir will rain death on your heads should he ever cross paths with you again... I've got plenty of wonderful and downright horrific things to pit my players against without using pre-packaged worlds. I agree with you, imagination is the most important thing and obviously it is better to do it all by yourself, I use to write my stories too, in cities I've created... but not everybody has the same time, wish, or ability to do it well and/or to do it quickly if they want to play soon. So, the maps and worlds offered by TSR are useful... and believe me, more useful than many many things in this consumist planet that humans don't need at all and they buy it and buy it and buy it all the time, all of them.
But yes! of course! let the mind fly... heheh A truth, a death... To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

I've got plenty of wonderful and downright horrific things to pit my players against without using pre-packaged worlds. | As someone who plays regularly in his world, believe me - I'm more afraid of the God-King Alloka'ir than I am of anything I've run into in Ravenloft. Granted, as he's said, we don't play often in Ravenloft- Usually single adventures, when our characters run into this strange fog... 'nuff said.
However many of us have had run ins with Alloka'ir (Hey Longtooth... "Just take the money, and walk away!") much to our dismay. In fact, now that he's the "God-King" and not just the horribly powerful evil lich he was when we met him, he's going to be wreaking even more havoc on our poor unsuspecting party members. ...the cat on velvet pattens stole along the quiet hill. Well, now my players have arrived at a village near Saradush in Faerun, they accepted two jobs, one is to rescue the partner of a man, who has been kidnapped by goblins and a beholder was rounding inside the cave in the mountains where the goblins were.
They finished this last day, and then they have to take the man to his partner and get the reward. The other job is to find the daughter of an old adventurers team's leader; the girl has been killed by an old girl mummy, and many black priests are inside this. Ok, this last one is the story they are going to play next Sunday. The question is, what would be better for them after that?, To find a very important magic item?, To save a fort from trolls?, to steal the goods some thieves have stolen before to give them back to a rich motherfucker who will betray them after the job? or do I better have to take them to a more powerful campaign?.
I know I can answer this by myself, but I would like opinions, many ideas are good.
In the other hand: My players are 7th level, a thief, a priest, a mage, two warriors and a berserker. And, I'd like to know some monsters that could fix with them. I had to make the beholder weaker than it was (in the middle of the game, they didn't know it) and I do not like doing that. A truth, a death... Well, weaker was not the word, I mean that I had to fail some dice rolls on purpose. Not many of them anyway. But your advice is good, I should let some of them die, the ones who do not care enough about their situation... A truth, a death...
