So, anyone viewers starting to feel the pinch? The problem with the strike is that it's always the comedies that start shutting down first. I've been going through Daily Show and Colbert Report withdrawls. Luckily I'm not much of a sit-com person, or much for late night talk shows like Leno, but it might start hitting the good drama series in the near future. I hear 24 is shutting down production...

but mostly i watch setanta, sci fi and fox soccer, so i don't think i'll be too horribly affected.

That's entirely possible. I watched an interview with Masi Oka last week (don't know when the actual interview was filmed) and he said that this season was essentially divided into two distinct parts, 11 episodes in the first and 12 in the second. If that's the case, and they've only got the first half scripted and filmed...well, it could be a short season.

i've only been hit by the daily show and colbert. i usually watch those before shutting my eyes for the night. unfortunately now my brain feels confused trying to fall asleep after 'the first 48' or the food network and insists on pumping out weird mixed dreams that resemble a cop drama and veggietales.

I know what you mean. I usually let the DVR get the Daily Show, and then I watch it first thing in the morning. Nothing like a good laugh to get the brain going in the early hours.

they play the pompey games when setanta doesn't, i like setanta much more actually, they have gaelic football, i really need to get over there and see that game in rl one day.

soccer has nothing to do with the writers guild of america, ding dongs. take your ball play conversation elsewhere unless in some weird twist soccer is scripted like the WWE... in which case that zidane head butt would make perfect sense.

i saw the new csi last night, i'm glad that little brat got what she deserved, but i guess i just don't watch enough network television to really care about their strike and the movies they've been putting out have been crap...maybe they'll be able to generate some new ideas and not have to resort to remakes of excellent old movies, Japanese horror and over used story lines, since their creativity has been cast aside for more money.

It's not just the networks, it's the cable channels as well. Most of the dramas are written well in advance, so with the exception of 24, not a lot has been affected as yet.

Part of the problem, as I understand it, is that the writers want more creative control in their environment as well.

As for bad movies, we're talking a lot of executive decisions made by producers and companies.

you may have a point, and perhaps if they're wanting more creative control, there'll be hope that something besides Jerry Springer and Steve Wilkos will catch my attention.

I'm still a little disgruntled that they never went with Clive Barker's Demonologist, based on the Warren's experiences fighting supernatural evil in the world, but ghost whisperer becomes a hit?

They enjoy watered down stupid.....if they have to think (and must rely on far fetched, I-solved-the-case-in-thirty-minutes monologue) then it ain't worth it.

Yep, channels like sci-fi have already admitted that they're playing to the lowest common denominator. Farscape, arguably the best show ever aired on their station, was both too high-brow and too expensive, hence its demise.

And they replaced it with Tremors: The Series...which apparently was too stupid even for Sci-Fi fans, because it got dropped pretty quickly.

Neither does Zidane, DVR's, WWE, or ball play have anything to do with the WGA.

I heard Letterman was paying his and Craig Ferguson's staff out of his own pocket. A lady I worked with has a son who writes for The Tonight Show, and he's decided to come home to bumfuck, TN, since he's not making any money out thar.

Yeah but they let it go for what... 4 seasons? And they got to do the Peacekeeper Wars, which is better than leaving Aeryn and Crichton splintered into a million pieces in the bottom of the ocean.

True, true...I'm glad there was some sort of closure there, and the door is still open for further development (D'Argo lives!) Still, the schlock they usually show on Sci-Fi...blech. The other day they had some movie where American G.Is were fighting gargoyles that were unleashed by the Nazis (and of course promptly went out of control.) And then of course we have the wonderful TV programming like Ghost Hunters. Pfeh...give me some Doctor Who any day; now there's real sci-fi.
