well, firstly, to those who don't know - Quote: |
"Torchwood" Season 1 will air on BBC America beginning Sept. 9.
| Season two, which is under way, has a guest appearance from James Marsters. apparently, a quite "omnisexual" appearance (his words) and it'll offend and tittilate.
that's all for now. | |

I'm still undecided on Torchwood...
It feels like a poor man's Dr Who and it's acted camp as tits, but does have an odd appeal. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Personally I think the acting is better than the current Dr. Who. He has these idiotic facial expressions that make me want to bash his face in with a shovel. Torchwood has less cheesy storyline (bar the season finale) and more character interaction. It focuses less on the "will they won't they" of the Doctor and his companion. More on actual shit going down. In Memory of the Busby Babes :

i really wasn't too keen on this current series. the action was good, story was, but the companion was weak. bad. i didn't like her. it seemed her whole story was -
"i want you but you don't look at me, you're hung up on rose. damn her, am i really not as good as her?"
no sorry missy, you're not.
she sucked. and im quite sad to say that catherine tate is apparently the next companion. in the next series (series 4) freema agyeman ( from s 3 ) is going to be in it for some of the series, and catherine twat is going to be the rest.
1 - catherine twat is... fucking awful. she's been taken over by one of her "characters" from her so called comedy career, and just plays her all the time. her performance in the christmas episode of dr who was just shit. i hate that kind of woman, and i hated her.
2 - continuity? what continuity? yeah that's right. even though she was in a prior episode, she's playing someone completely different.
torchwood, i'm ashamed to say, even though i do know its designed for an adult audience, seems to do exactly what the name is. jumbles up doctor who and turns it into something... better.
the first and second series were brilliant. this one? sorry. just not good enough. i wait for the next series of torchwood with much more anticipation than i do for the next series of doctor who.

it's about 2938732495435 times better.
but then again, isn't the K-9 series for little children?
torchwood is adults only. not xxx adults only, but its an adult program.
you'll enjoy it. watch it. it is brilliant.

Don't know what k-9 is. But Tozzy knows how much I love Torchwood. As I said before, the character interaction is much better. MUCH better.
I watched my first episode of Dr. Who with the black girl in it Friday night. She's terrible. I mean.. TERRIBLE. In Memory of the Busby Babes :

The most recent Dr. Who I've seen is Daleks in Manhattan. Old school creepiness. Trust me, you don't wanna know. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

I thought Martha Jones was lacking, but honestly, the last six episodes in the series were fucking awesome. Just realized not everyone has seen them so I shouldn't say anything about them. But the series finale was just excellent. All the episodes before those six I could live without.
But I still like Torchwood more, and can't wait for it to come back!
And Catherine Tate as the next companion? Kill me now. Early in life I had to choose between honest arrogance and hypocritical humility. I chose the former, and have seen no reason to change.

i'm going DVD the tate episodes and fast forward or mute her bits if she's anything like before.
if she doesn't ditch that routine the real dr who fans are going to be in an uproar and the series will fail big time.

I have to agree with Boomerang. The last six episodes were great (Jack was in the last three), and made up for the mediocrity of the the first half of the season. I also liked Martha (she's going to guest star on Torchwood. Too bad if you don't like her ) more than Rose.
I prefer Doctor Who. Generally I just find it to have higher production values for and Torchwood seems to rely too much on the "everyone is sleeping with everyone else" angle.

And Dr. Who seems to rely on the will they won't they relationship between the doctor and his female companion way too much. And the only people sleeping together on Torchwood were Gwen and the sarcastic doctor and Ianto and Jack. But Jack fucks anything that moves. In Memory of the Busby Babes :

Yeah not my favorite. I like the one where they go out to the country and find the freaky cannibals. And the one with the past and future device. Those two pwn. In Memory of the Busby Babes :

I've seen all three seasons of Dr. Who and most of the first season of Torchwood.
Dr. Who and Torchwood are two entirely different shows, aimed at two entirely different audiences. Dr. Who was originally... and still is... very much a children's program. That isn't meant to belittle it; on the contrary, I think the show (as a whole, old series and current) is brilliant. For those who haven't seen Torchwood, it is NOT a children's program. So to compare the two isn't really fair.
But to hell with fair. I enjoyed the first two seasons of Dr. Who more than the first season of Torchwood, and I enjoyed Torchwood more than the last (3rd) season of Dr. Who. But contrary to popular opinion, Martha Jones really didn't/doesn't ruin the series for me. I think the writing took a bad turn, and they writers got caught up in the whole 'Martha vs. Rose" thing, trying to show Martha as a viable replacement as both a companion and a possible love interest. They would have been better off just dropping her into the show and forgetting Rose even existed. Not that that would have been GOOD, but it would have been BETTER than hearing about Rose every other episode. None of that is Martha's (or Freema's) fault, it's just the writing. The writer's haven't given her character a chance.
Meanwhile, Torchwood has an entirely different vibe to it, and when you're in the mood for some sex and violence without the guarantee of a happy ending... there you are. I love the show, but I guess i'm still a kid at heart so I prefer Dr. Who... if for no other reason than pure nostalgia.
Oh, and could the Dr. Who writers have a season WITHOUT Daleks in it? I mean, the first two appearances were awesome. Daleks vs. Cybermen was kinda cool. But its old now.
...and what ever happened to the ORIGINAL Cybermen?
...and who thought it was a good idea to turn into the friggin' JOKER? He is not insane, he's EVIL...there's a difference! WTF!? When you stare into the darkness To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

some interesting points.
torchwood and doctor who aren't completely different, they come from the same subject and are all based in the same 'universe' of characters and stories.
yes the torchwood episodes are more "adult"
they're not aimed at children, and are not aimed at families. doctor who IS. It always has been a family show, all the way back to the first episodes with William Hartnell in 1963.
To say the two series are completely unrelated and are completely different shows is rediculous. They're from the same source.
Doctor Who is not just for children, it is for adults alike. Many of the older shows are much too advanced in subject and technicality and suchlike to be considered "just for kids" that.... is completely wrong.
The audience for Doctor Who and Torchwood overlap. Doctor Who is a Family show, and I know people as young as 13 who love Torchwood. The subject matter may be more "adult" but don't think that constricts the audience into a certain age group.
Yes i agree. the last series was... well... badly done. some of the episodes were brilliant. but i do agree with you on the rose front. it seemed as if the writers were trying to guilt trip billie piper back. the constant comparison just didnt make it seem like a series, more like a interrim.
i do actually have to say, rose is growing to be a favourite of mine in terms of companions. ACE has to be my favourite, but yeah.
I'd agree with the "no dalek" but it does get more audiences, and the dalek stories have been brilliant.
good points, but some i do have to disagree on.
