Apparently it will be out next year. I assume that mixed feelings are pretty much universal? Either way the tunnel sequence should be much more interesting.

Depp looks like a burn victim in the pictures I have seen... Plus I am a fan of Gene, so Depp will have to bust his ass to be on par.

*sigh* My only hope is that Burton does a better job with this than he did with Planet of the Apes. This was one of my favorite books as a kid, and I loved the movie too. If he fucks this up I'll have to look him up and bite him right in the face...Depp too.

Did some horrendous monster suck all the creativity out of Hollywood all of a sudden? It seems like the only thing anyone comes up with now is remakes.

I can't wait for this movie! Burton and Depp are such a good combo in my opinion, look at Edward Scissorhands, bloody good film!

I do love the original, but it's starting to look dated, I'm sure it can only be improved upon with today's technology, and Burton's sinister direction.

Personally, I wasn't terribly impressed with Edward Scissorhands. I mean, I liked it, but Burton has done much better. Besides, he made Winona Ryder a blonde in that movie. Yech!

haha!! yes, the blonde thing was a mistake I agree, but I've loved all of Burton's films to date. Nightmare before Christmas, Big Fish, Batman! You can't say those are crap!!

Agreed, Wilder just oozes charisma in a manner that few actors emulate.

I'm looking forward to it. The original film didn't really make me go "yaaaay," so a remake is welcome. Plus, Depp is dreeeeamy.

Burton is crap. Depp is the only thing that might save this movie. Burton has a style of weirdness that rubs me the wrong way.

Personally I didn't like the movie as a kid, I found it to be scary. Take, for instance, when Willy Wonka took them through the tunnel and the images were flashing on the walls! And what is with those oompa loompas?! *ahem*
Anyways, I love Johnny Depp as well as Tim Burton, I'm sure they'll be able to pull it off.
However, I'm with Wicked Lady, I don't remember Willy Wonka having a father :s

I don't remember that in the books either and I read them both. I hope that this isn't going to be a modernized version of the story where Wonka's mother was a crack whore who ran off with Slugworth or something like that.

Hahaha I can see it now. Considering the way things are going these days. And I'm with you, people are really unimaginative these days, what with all of the remakes. It's like theyre digging the bottom of the barrel for soemthing to make a movie about. *shakes her head*
