"In 1952 Sight & Sound polled the world’s leading film critics to compile a list of the best films of all time. The magazine has repeated this poll every ten years, to show which films stand the test of time in the face of shifting critical opinion. In 1992 we added a poll of directors asking them for their personal choices.
Now, in 2002, the magazine has published its largest poll to date, receiving contributions from 145 film critics, writers and academics, and 108 film directors. The results are intriguing, both for their certainty in choosing intense personal films as the best, and for their lack of agreement about which films of recent times can compete with the greatest."
Your thoughts? Anything in particular you want to note? Your favorite director or critic's lists?

Well, th eonly movies I really agree with are the Godfather movies. Those are all classics. I even liked the third. But other than that, I really wasn't impressed with the list.
There will be a next time.
In my heart.
In my mind.
How does it feel to be you?
How does it feel to feel the way you do?
You're so decisive,
And I don't care if you like or you hate me,
But I know you motherfuckers 'bout to under rate me.
I didn't like how they did the Godfather movies; there are people who voted for 1, those who voted for 2, and those who voted for 1+2; they added all three together for 1+2. Rather sneaky way of running that, imo. (Although both ARE great movies).
Have you watched any of the others on the list?

See, it's not necessarily something you look at, and say, wow, they have good taste in movies because they agree with me; I use it as a guide of movies I should probably see.
One of the movies I REALLY want to see only got two votes; however, this is probably mostly due to how controversial it is.
I was amazed at how few votes Birth of a Nation and Intolerance got. I wish critics wouldn't take politics of 85 years ago into consideration when looking at great films.

I'm shocked that Stuart Gordon was one of the directors voting, and even more shocked that he and John Waters voted for "The Tingler"...Happy, but shocked.
