this movie was excellent.
it focuses on the story of the man who caught hanibal. after hanibal almost kills him he goes into retirement but he gets called out when a totally bizar and very twisted cereal killer pops up that they just can't get a profile on.
the movie really kept you on the edge of your seat and was a good mix of psychological thriler and almost a "boo movie."
and you know what?
i saw it for free! muahaha!
damn i love college.
anyone else who sees it, lemme know whatcha think.
This is supposed to be a remake of "Manhunter" right.
Was it better than it?
Because that was a great movie and brilliantly directed.
"The Tooth Fairy" is still, to this day, one of THE scariest serial killers EVER!!!
this was based off of the book "Red Dragon"
the preqeul to "Silence of the Lambs"
"Man Hunter" was also based off of "Red Dragon," but as far as i know this one had a higher budget.

Amazon.co.uk Review
Released to box-office indifference in 1986, Manhunter introduced Hannibal Lecter and established the rules of the modern race to find serial killer thriller five years before The Silence of the Lambs packed cinemas everywhere. This was Michael Mann's third feature, reuniting William L Petersen and Dennis Farina from his debut Thief (1981) as FBI agents hunting the killer dubbed "The Tooth Fairy". Petersen's Will Graham is the man who put Lecktor (as it is spelt here) behind bars, and as in Lambs consults with the Doctor, played with understated malevolence by Brian Cox. Manhunter is an exceptionally well-photographed film: Mann's regular cinematographer Dante Spinotti created sparse, elegantly framed, often mono-chromatically lit compositions which are essential to the shifting psychological moods. The performances are very good, and the typically 1980s, Vangelis-esque electronic score effectively sustains tension. Once the killer is introduced the scenes with Joan Allen have a genuinely unsettling, almost surreal quality. There is at least one serious plot flaw--how does "The Red Dragon" get his letter to Lecktor? Manhunter never packs the sheer excitement of Lambs, nevertheless, it is a powerful and compelling thriller which remains far superior to the third instalment in the series, Hannibal (2001).
fromt he way this sounds "Red Dragon" actually focuses more on the killer himself "the tooth fairy" or "Red Dragon" as he calls himself. in "Red Dragon" we actually see the killer. do you see him in "Man Hunter"?
For definite, the killer in Manhunter is real creepy, he wears stockings over his face, but you do get to see him.
I get a shiver down my spine everytime I think about it.
I'll have to check this new version out, but I doubt that it's superior, Manhunter really freaked me out as a kid.
But then again I haven't seen it in a while, so my memory might just be getting ahead of me.

Better than "Silence Of The Lambs"? No.

Red Dragon was excellent.... saw it last night.... though the ending could have been a lot better.... the beginning was where it shined..... it went a little downhill from there.... not too much.... but enough.... good movie overall though...

this movie was incredibly......competent. and quite.......adequate. how is all that for a ringing endorsement? its hard to get excited about a film when there is nothing exciting about it.
*shrugs* i GUESS it was okay. *shrugs again* ehh. i GUESS the performances were serviceable. but honestly, thats about all there is to it. "excellent"? where? "exciting"? when? the corpse of this franchise has been bled dry. pun intended.
i can just see the director, brett ratner, on the set; *gasp* "look! there's some motion and some dialogue being spoken! quick! point the camera at it! ahhhhh....my job is done." the guy brings nothing to the films he makes. and this.....THIS is the man they hired to direct the new SUPERMAN film?! ugh. as a superman fan i can say that i dont want to see an "adequate" superman film. i want to see an incredible one. who knows? maybe he can pull it off. have to wait and see i suppose.
i find it amazing when a two minute or so preview trailer, the new TWO TOWERS preview, gets me more amped up than the whole two hour plus film that comes after it. not a good sign. but ohhhh..that LOTR trailer! worgs and oliphants and ents! oh my! MORE balrog! yes! this will be something with VISION, gang! cant say the same for RED DRAGON.

Agreed. Silence is a classic. Hannibal is not. This falls somewhere in between. But it was definately good and worth every penny
There will be a next time.
In my heart.
In my mind.
How does it feel to be you?
How does it feel to feel the way you do?
You're so decisive,
And I don't care if you like or you hate me,
But I know you motherfuckers 'bout to under rate me.
i still thought it was better, mainly because they focused a bit more on what was going on with the killer.
if you go to this movie for hanibal himself, then no its not better than silence. but if you go to this movie for a plot, then in my mind i think its better. on behalf of the man who wrote the script i think its very exciting and it actually kept me quiet and watching the movie rather than making commentary or thinking about what I would have done better.
I loved Red Dragon. I thought it was just as good as Silence of the Lmabs which is one of the best movies ever. Hannibal was pretty good it could have been better though.:metalhead
