ok, so i saw the movie yesterday. first off im a big tim burton fan, and im also a big fan of the 1968 sci-fi thriller. i didn't have to high expectations for this movie though. cuz tim burton can be a fuck nut sometimes but i gotta say the movie was well done. i just hated the opening theme. it's much too cliche for burton and it bored the fuck out of me, which isn't a good thing to be when the movie is just in it's opening credits. but anyways i though it was decent. i give it an 8. it doesn't delve into all the moral dillema and philosophical questions poised by the novel or the first movie. those dillema's and challenges that were presented back in the hayday were what made the movie so good. i remember after watching the first one, i couldn't stop thinking about it for a few weeks, but oh well. there's not much drama and it barely skims the top layer of the sci fi that it's predecessor did, but it's still a good movie. i don't know how many of you have seen the first one but there was a few funny quirks here and there that spoofed it. the very first diologue from any of the apes was "get your stinking hands off me you damn dirty human". if anyone doesn't know that was one of charleton heston's more popular lines from the original, exept it was addressed at the ape. but anyway the movie was good. the costumes and characters were done very very well, and the storyline, although different from the original was also done well. there is no Dr. zaeus or whatever, and all the humans in the movie talk. the storyline does have it's twist and turns like the first one, unfortunately they can all be predicted with out much effort. but again good movie, good directing, good script, good acting, good costumes. it's the movie i've liked most this summer, right next to shrek. anyways whatever.

i thought the homage dialogue that they threw in there really just stopped the movie in its tracks. i almost groaned out loud. then they did it again with charlton heston's cameo as thade's father. "damn them.....damn them all to hell." ugh.
i am a big burton fan, but tim sometimes over stays his welcome when it comes to the climaxes of his films. he just doesnt seem to know when to end them..and they start to drag near the endings. like this one did.
this didnt feel...i dunno.."burton" enough for me. i dont want to pigeon hole the guy..but his quirkiness just wasnt there. it felt a bit generic to me. like anyone directed it.
the apes were played well. the humans were bland. the make up was top notch. the look of the film was good. sets and cinematography.
i also felt that the mystique was gone. i mean after all..there have been five previous movies. a tv series. even an animated show. and as much as they want to stay away from the word remake. that is essentially what this is.
all in all...it was just sort of...there. not terrible. but not terribly good either. "The great thing about being ignored is that you can speak the truth with impunity."

FUCK!!!!! i just wrote a long ass page of what i thought of the movie...then accidently erased it! Now i have to sum up what i said....
I liked it...it was good fun and am glad Tim didnt try to replicate the "feel" of the original. He added fun and wimsy to it which i found enjoyable and humerous. His silly references to the first one were amusing (some people groaned..others just didnt get it) but i thought it was fun..the whole Heston making an appearanceand saying his famouse line) It was like a satirical tribute..not really a remake. Normally i pick apart the flaws in movies..but i went and just enjoyed this one without being anal.I loved the costumes and makeup. ( i LOVED those tents)
and yes...she was a sexy ape.

Just saw this on Monday, and I didn't see any posts for it in the last three pages of threads, so I figured I'd start one up for people's opinions of the movie (Burton is God).
I think that Tim Burton (Burton is God) should be commended on a well planned, brilliantly filmed, and competently written remake.
The camerawork, scenery, and costuming were excellent. I thought that the merging (Burton is God) of contemporary human behavior with ape-like mannerisms was (Burton is God) a great touch. The acting was excellent, with the exception of Mark Wahlberg who is, well, Mark Wahlberg. All in all I thought the movie was a credible bastard offspring of the original. Tim Burton (Burton is God) was able to bring his own unique dark touch to the movie without it overwhelming the original character of the movie. I found it to be a very enjoyable film (Burton is God) and well worth the money.

All right, all right, I detest groveling. You can make it up by starting yet another cool thread to add to the thousands that have come before it, thereby redeeming yourself. (I don't know the song, but I do still hold the name of Marky Mark and the Fungi Bunch burned indelibly into my memory)
