Anyone notice the rise of movies that are starting to grow to lengths signifigantly above the 1.5 hour standard format? Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Brotherhood of the Wolf, etc.? Maybe Hollywood has finally decided that an hour and a half is just too limiting a time for many stories. It'd be a good thing if this were the case, in my ever-so-humble opinion.
That in mind, anyone else up for a Mountains of Madness starring Johnny Depp?
When people talk of the freedom of writing, speaking or thinking I cannot choose but laugh. No such thing ever existed. No such thing now exists; but I hope it will exist. But it must be hundreds of years after you and I shall write and speak no more.

while i think that POTTER(even though i didnt like it) and LOTR needed to be the lengths they are, i do think that BROTHERHOOD suffered from its running time. i dont think it needed to be as long as it was. i dont mind long movies as long as they can keep things moving. that is hard to do. i have heard many people complain about movies being too long thses days. they just want to get in and get out. drive thru cinema.

the worst thing is when you're in a long movie that you want to see, but you really need to pee. it makes the movie longer, but you really don't want to miss any of it. gimmee half time or something. we used to get half time, about 10 years ago. but they probably decided that they were better off without it. that way they can show movies faster and make more money!!!
I'm all for longer movies, so long as the movie is worth the time of sitting through it. Fellowship of the Riong was one such movie. I do think that it wouldn't be bad to put in a 10 min intermission for the sake of those that absolutely must have that $3.00 jumbo drink to sip during the movie. I remember that both Kenneth Brannagh's 'Hamlet' and 'Ghandi' both had theatre intermissions...I can't remember if 'Dances With Wolves' did or not...
