I like the home edition. Sometimes I cry.

The home edition is where it's at. I don't don't cry, but I get damn close... and all like... smiley.

I cry at the regular edition - it doesn't take much though.

Now, what's the Home Edition then? cos when I saw the name of it I steered clear thinking it was something to do with DIY.... :/

Oh god.. The one with the guy that got shot and ended up paralyzed... And they built two houses, one for him and his fiancee... and one for his parents.

And THEN they paid for a wedding, because the family couldn't afford one. And they outfitted his house in paraplegic-friendly furniture and technology.

OH MY GOD. I sobbed over and over again.

Home makeover show... They take a 'family' with some sort of special circumstance and makeover their home. Often throw in extras like mortgage payoffs, cars, college scholarships and such.

That was a good one. Last nights show nearly got me. Next weeks looks good as well.

Did you know some of the home makeover recipients have sued ABC over their home makeovers?

That's pretty odd. Usually the people live in shitholes. You'd think they'd be stoked no matter what.

You'd think. The (like 18) kids who lived in Northern CA whose parents died within a month of each other and the family who moved into their house just as the dad was being sent to Iraq (they brought him home for the show) have sued.

There was another one where A family took in like 3 black siblings whose parents had died or something, and after the show they kicked out the kids or something... the kids sued... someone... as well.

Ah- so it is DIY! I will avoid it!

Apparently the regular Makeover series has been sued too by candidates who have undergone all the medicals and been asked to re-live thier traumas for the camera, then at the last minute haven't been selected. It's a crazy world.

not really do-it-yourself. More have-it-done-for-you-by-others. HIDFYBO.

HAHA!! still, I've seen enough DIY-ish type RL programmes to last me a life time - I don't want to add another one, especially one that is guaranteed to make me blubber!

It's not a "do it yourself" show at all. They usually send the family on a vacation and hire a crew to build them a house while they're gone.

It's a surprise to the chosen family. They don't have any hand at all in the actual renovations.

The one Mia's goin on about is actually being sued too. Apparently some woman commited suicide after going through all the consults for her EXTREME make over and then they dropped her because her recovery time wouldnt fit the time alloted for the show. Her sister is sueing for damages and says that ABC and its affiliates asked her and her family to make disparaging comments about said dead woman's appearance for the show.

One of the extreme home makeovers was done here in KC and it was pretty big news in the area, my sister ended up meeting the owner of the house in a bar the night after the show aired, and he asked her friend to be his first date in his new kitchen. Pretty crazy.

that's an interesting pick up line... "yeah, i was on that reality show that one week... yeah, you should come over so i can screw you senseless on the cutting board... yeah, it looks just a liiiiitttle bit different in real life... the camera makes it look like a completely different place, huh?"

That's awfull. When I first posted this thread I felt sure an argument would arise about surgery for aesthetic reasons v surgery for medical reasons. This just goes to prove that surgery for aesthetic reasons is just as life-changing as surgery for medical reasons.

On another note, I watched the Home Edition on Saturday, and I cried my eyes out!! yea - thanks Wicked and Doll for that!!!

Last nights show was pretty good. Damn huge house.

Well I'm sure the ones we have over here are mega-old repeats. The first one I watched was a family of 9. There were 8 kids and their mother had died four years previous. The dad was obviously very very loving, but their were kids sleeping in the garage and their was an 18 year old son who had never had his own room.

The bit that got to me was where they had done a life-sized portrait of mum and put it in dad's bedroom. There was a secretary with mum's sunglasses on top. All the kids were there, and their dad was just in tears over the secretary and the portrait - well, I just bawled like a baby!
