The movie has a ridiculous name, but after you get past that, Drew Barreymore and the fact that the only thing anyone will tell you about is a bunny named Frank and actually watch it, it blows you away. I was just wondering if anyone else in here was very fond of it?

I loved it, I did see it quite a while ago though. In fact so long ago I forgot Drew Barrymore was even in the film. Which is surprising, I quite like her.
Let me introduce you to the search function. I am positive there is at LEAST one other Donnie Darko thread in this part of the forum.
I'm surprised Lillith didn't hop on you for it.
Actually, windowpained, I looked far enough back through the movie and television forum to see if there had been a conversation recently. While I didn't do a search, I also didn't see a thread.

the film is great was a bit confused the first time i saw it but after a couple more watches it made sense.
it has a massive connection between donnie being a superhero in one sense
but him also being out of control
frank being donnies sisters boyfriend who warns him at the begining to wake up nad get out of bed
grechin the girl he must save cause if he doesnt then she will die along with the whole world
granma death is a version of donnie that prophasized what was going to happen
I only watched it once and I did enjoy. I particularily enjoyed the characters of the pedophiliac cult leader and the teacher who was his sheep, I thought that they were great and funny.
Donny was really interesting and Frank was just a creepy and mysterious character. I also know I can't be the only one who thought that Drew Barrymore was incredibly sexy in a domineering bitch kind of way, that kind of made her even hotter.
What I got out of the plot was that Donny had time jumped somehow at somepoint, probably during the scene where the jet engine falls through the house. Thus he had been driven mad by the timesplit while still being aware of the events that were about to occur, thus we have the manifestation of Frank as a kind of second personality that guides Donny becaue it is the part of him that is aware of the future. Donny has repressed the memory of his time travel to a degree but the experience was something that his mind could not understand and it causes severe phsychosis.
Other than that my understanding of the film is limited and all I could get out of the ending was that he somehow sacrificed himself so that his girlfriend would go on in his time with himself dead and her never meeting him and thus not dying herself.

I would say that it's unique in it being a common rather than epic setting and that it explores what time traval might do to a person's phsyche quite nicely.
