now on dvd...i was just a mere child when i watched this, and had forgotten how powerful the film actually was...i rented again in jest because my sweet lord mentioned it's one film that did actually disturb him, and i ended up more disturbed i believe...

while they never make it clear who was the first to fire the missiles, it's scary how they demonstrated what could happen, and then state the fact that their movie was only a fraction of what a true nucleur holocaust would do...

i just think it should be a movie all should watch...thank goodness it was reagan in those years, and not bush! Or we'd all be huddled masses watching our hair fall out.

ever seen "Miracle Mile"?

I saw that movie, and it was recently too, and it still managed to freak me out (The Day After, that is). The scenario wasn't quite exact, but it was realistic enough to get to you...Its so hard to for me to think about how people lived with the fear of something like that happening for so long...

Is this the film that 'The Day After Tomorrow' is based on?

I've not seen either - heard some negative comments on the new one. Still, stuff like that always freaks me out because it COULD happen. Perhaps not in a week as the newer film, but it still get's your (or mine) mind working overtime. Films like that I find far more disturbing than any horror film I've watched.

Reminds me of a cartoon that was out in the 80's too called 'Where the wind blows' (I think). I still haven't managed to watch it all.

No, "The Day After Tomorrow" is about a monster storm that wreaks havoc on the world. "The Day After" is about a nuclear holocaust.

I knew they were about different apocolyptic scenarios, just the similarity of the titles made me think that the latter may have been a re-make, or a 'new improved' (or not) version.

I'll have to check the date on the other - I'm a late 80's child myself young man!

Now if you guys realy want disturbed look for the British program AFTER THE WARMING from around 1989..shure its a what if but boy did they get somethings right on the $$ so far ..

actually the movie i'm talking about was an old made for tv movie, probably early eighties...when the cold war was at it's height...it's been recently released on dvd...and has nothing to do with global warming...just setting up a nice life in kansas and then the image of missiles going off and then what happens thirty minutes after and beyond...it's really not pretty...

hey're releasing a lot of old movies on dvd now...they're actually working on phasing out video cassettes, the good news is it's never been cheaper to purchase them. 4.99 at a blockbuster.
