there's a new game out now, called bet on soldier. it's a great game, the way it works is there are two sides, two enemies, kinda like armies. and theyre at war with eachother. like a planetary war.
but the whole thing is televised.
when you're fighting your way through the war, you get to a few "arenas" on the way, and you get to choose to fight a champion in each before you start the mission - when you're choosing your arms and such before the mission starts.
this bit is the big bet on soldier thing, its timed, and you have to kill the other guy before time runs out, and the sooner you kill him, the more money you get. also each guy along the way you kill gets you money, more stylish kills get you bonuses and you use your money to buy and upgrade and fix and reload your guns and armour and if you use one, a shield.
there's also a big storyline behind it, the guy you're playing as was a normal soldier kinda guy, not one of the bet on soldier champions. one night a bunch of men came to his house and murdered his family. he wants to know why. and there's also deeper plot with some kind of organisation... a special group... but i wont go deep into it.
its kinda hard to explain, i havent played it much, and there aren't many online servers since it's new and demanding on your machine. the story is good, plus the way several aspects of games work together. kinda like out for revenge soldier dressed up like master chief fighting a war meets medal of honor and unreal tournament. its fun.and hard.
you do really need a very good processor, (an amd 64 3200 perhaps, or an athlon or sempron with a high l2 cache) at least a G of ddr 3200 or better and a 256MB 8 or more pixel pipeline graphics card to run it.

battle royale seems a little different though, similar, but the reasons behind it are kinda different to the whole UT / BOS stuff.
i can see this idea being put into a movie, just hope they get their own title and plotline.
