I'm sure that this has already been discussed and most of you will not care but this is of great importance to me.

I have many reasons, all of which I wish to explain.
Ok, Anne Rice is one of my favorite authors. While I am not a huge fan of her vampire novles however the point still remains that this movie is anti-art.
Now it is one thing to make a movie about some one else's idea when they are dead. They are not there for you to ask, but if you are making a movie and that person is still alive, any good artist will want the author, poet, musician, etc to help with opinions. In Interview with the Vampire, Anne Rice got to help out in every way. She wrote the script, she helped with casting, directing, costumes, everything.
Now, I guess there is some law that to make a movie she had to give up her rights to the book for a couple of years. When casting came around she got to help pick Lestat. After that they refused to even tell her what they were doing.
Now, this movie combines the two novels, The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned. No big deal, the first helps explain the second. But if any one has read it Lestat even says, he wrote his book in response to Louis'. In the movie the directer and script writter took many liberties. Such as writting out key characters. Lestat never made Louis. Nor did he make Gabrielle. Armand was never made either. Lestat was created by Marius, not the psycotic vampire that created him in the book. If it had not been for the fact that he was made by that particular vampire, he would have not been the way he was.
From what I can gather, the human woman whose "aunt" was a vampire has a love afair with Lestat.
They make Lestat out to be not a new rock star but one who had been at it for years. This alone was his profession.
Now we come to Akasha. In the moive they make this woman out to be totally ruthless, no reason to what she was doing. In fact, the quote I remember from the theater was "She wants to make hell on earth". Akasha was not trying to make hell on earth, in her own way, she was creating heaven. She was killing most men, leaving only 1 man to every 10 women. she had logical reasoning for this as well, feeling that men were the source for evil in the world. While we all know this is not true (look at Amozon women) the trailer also said that Lestat was the only one who could stop her. But in the book Lestat was powerless to stop her. He did nothing. It was one of the three original vampires Akasha and her husband had created that stopped her.
The wordrobe is another thing I bitch about. In the movie Akasha, a queen from Egypt looks as if she is from India simply based on her clothing
If this seems irrelevent to you I am saddened. There's not much I can do about it, though. For those who care I would like to explain why not to see it. The director and producers will loose money. I am interested (though I will probably get pissed) and plan to rent it upon it's release. But I am asking everyone to tell everyone they know not to go. The more money they loose the less likely they are to do this to anyone else.
So I will ask again: Please do not go see this movie.

to me, it just sounds like another installment of how hollywood works. should we boycott every based-on-a-book movie that gets pumped out of hollywood or should we just understand that it's the way hollywood does things and hope for the best?

Well not having read any Vampire Chronicle books......Based on the movie..Lestat wasn't a Cold, ruthless Vampire....He felt something, thus it meant sense that he was created by Marius...If he had been created by a pyschotic Vampire and not been a "Fucked up" like Cold, and Ruthless and instead feel something, then that wouldn't make sense

I agree, they made her look ruthless with no reason as to what she was doing...The sucky reason they gave was that Vampires were immortal and shouldn't fear humans...In other words...Humans are weak, so they serve no purpose.....
But if she was trying to create "Heaven on Earth" What is the problem with killing men and leaving 1 man to every 10 women???? what's wrong with that????
and Lestat didn't realyl stoped her....he started her downfall and the rest of the Vampires bited her and the last vampire who took the last drop took "Akasha's Death" which was the "Aunt" of the human who "had" a love affair with Lestat....

it's quite sad that you are so bothered about the books that you care if other people go see it.

anyway, I sometimes find Anne Rice books hard to get into, so a 2 hour bubble-gum version is perfect for me.

I'm with Sphyre on this to a degree. I went and saw Queen of the Damned knowning that they would mess up the story... Little did I know how they would butcher it.

I speak from experience. This movie is a mockery of Anne's books. They screwed up everything.

But if you've never read her books you'll like the movie, simply because you won't know what you're missing. As a Vamp movie, it isn't horrible, even with the sorry acting and poor character developement.

OK, I think I can sum it up.

If a vampire movie comes out, staring a DEAD R&B popstar, with an ENTIRELY numetal crap soundtrack.. it's a given that it will suck ass.

Actually I'm more into Gothic, but I keep tabs on the local Metal scene and therefore understand the difference between that which is good and that which is numetal.

Yes I like Static-X but they were not in the movie....so that doesn't really matter....I like the movie...it was entertaining, I won't say it was the best movie....It was a decent movie...It did not bored me.....

And Yes I know how they butchered the movie....what did you expect....Most books turned movies especially the ones made for profit lose a whole lot......

Hm, some dude said "Queen of the Damned" was bad ass....I was like, no....It was a good movie, but it wasn't that good...Now Resident Evil was Badass

I haven't seen it yet... I saw The Count of Monte Cristo that weekend instead, good movie if I might say so.

Oh, based on a comment made; I've found that movies based on good books generally do poorly; movies made from boring books can do quite well.
