seriously... what does blockbuster mean?

i'unno... i always thought it was just a video rental store.... uhm, i think it means like, huge and nifty and glorified....like everything the Garfield movie wasn't.

I was curious, so I checked. The movie must be a huge financial success, and also have mass appeal. A something for everyone type movie.....one site said over 100 million upon it's release in north america.

um......blockbuster sucks....in my personal opinion....i prefer Hollywood Video....much larger selection....everything is always 5-day rental (is it like that w/ blockbuster yet or not?)

the only thing blockbuster has over Hollywood video is that blockbuster has an interesting collection of off-the-wall and hard-to-find films......but generally, Hollywood has everything

hehe i like hollywood video better too.. (thats where my boy works..so..yeah) but, all we have up here is Blockbuster and VideoQuest

i'm excited about king arthur, i'm not sure if it's blockbuster material or not(eventually it will be at blockbuster), but it's one i do want to see...and on a side note; what are we demolitioning?

ummmmmm........so what is the topic of the month really about? the definition of blockbuster, cuz um.....well, i mean we could check Microsoft's Dictionary vs' Webster's Dictionary vs Oxford English Dictionary......which is fine with me, but i don't really think itz a month worthy discusion.....i dunno, call me crazy i guess

i think it's just about the general movies coming out this summmer, alien vs. predator, spiderman two, and several others...i think riddick and potter are considered summer movies too...i like the chronicles of riddick!

Blockbuster is better. None of those fee's for being with them (Although I heard they recently stopped that...) and Blockbuster has more movies. Also, the rewards program is just awesome. I've gone to free sporting events and shit cause we rent so much.

X-Men 3 (Phoenix is in it, come on, gotta see it.)

Uhh...if DVD's of TV Shows count, then I plan on watching Dark Angel season 1 & 2 again. Mmm...Alba...

i enjoy the xmen movies, and it's highly entertaining with my husband, he's a comic book junkie and he read all the xmen dealing with that particular aspect of the xmen...so he's constantly analyzing and comparing the original with the interpretation for the big screen...

the phoneix saga was cool however, especially when she went all dark and they brought in the hellfire club!

where did the term come from? who coined it first and why? did a line waiting for a particular movie way back in the day start a riot when they sold out?

My guess...

Blockbuster refers to the old days when you used to have to stand outside to wait to get into the movie. Perhaps a 'blockbuster' was when the movie had so many people waiting for it, that it went beyond the block the the theater was on.
