Tim Burton, creator of Nightmare Before Christmas, has agreed to direct the remake of Alice in Wonderland for Disney. The filming is set to start in 2008 and the movie will be released in 2010.

The Alice adaptation will be a combination of live-action and performance-capture animation and will be based on a script by Linda Woolverton (The Lion King). It will be produced by longtime Burton collaborator Richard Zanuck and former Disney chairman Joe Roth, with Jennifer and Suzanne Todd.

IMDB gives the plot outline as, "The adventures of a young girl, Alice, who falls into a magical world full of strange characters and darkness behind every corner."

Following Alice in Wonderland, Tim Burton will direct and produce a feature version of his 1984 short Frankenweenie. The stop-motion feature follows a dog that is brought back from the dead by its devoted owner. Funny thing is that in 1984, Tim Burton was fired from Disney because of the original Frankenweenie "wasting the company resources."

No Casting information is available yet. Who do you think should be in this film? How about Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter? Who should play Alice?

disney fucked up Hitchhikers guide pretty bad... but then again - burton rocks.... so well see.

Disney didn't fuck up hitch-hikers. sadly enough, what people consider horrible compared to the other versions and the books, was Adams' own work (albeit completed by another) and his dream.

If it wasn't for Disney, it wouldn't have been made. the amount of trouble they had getting money for it and how many years it took to get the project under way was insane.

I like the way Burton sticks to stories pretty damn closely. As close as possible it seems usually.

I think he could do it well. his use of darkness and colour and emphasis would do the story real justice.

and the frankenweenie thing is just brilliant what a slap in the face.

of course depp will be the mad hatter, tim burton is in love with depp. not that i'm complaining though because they make a pretty good team. i don't see why this film wouldn't work, unless of course disney doesn't let burton go as dark as he wants with it. i envision him pumping out something very similar to the "alice" video game artwork.

I love Alice in Wonderland and I love Tim Burton. As far as I'm concerned, this has to be good.

Interesting, we're about to have two movies that is around the theme of Alice in Wonderland. First Marilyn Manson's film in 2008, then Tim Burton's. However I have much more confidence in Tim Burton's film.

It says that it is "performance-capture animation". Andy Serkis as Gollum was performance-capture animation. So it'll probably be live action along with performance-capture animated creatures

I'm looking forward to this one. I think Tim Burton will add his own style to this movie, and it will be great. But thats just speculation.
