Is it right to kill animals for their fur?
I think it is disgusting and unnecessary to use animals for fashion purposes.
What logic is there in prohibiting the torture of animals for human amusement while allowing the torture of animals for fur?
"The question of wearing or not wearing fur is not ethically equivalent to the question of choosing a dress " - Oleg Cassini. When we choose a dress it harms no one. When we choose fur we are personally responsible for animal suffering.
The thousands of animals killed each year is too high an ethical cost to pay for a coat.
What are your opinions? Are you against wearing real fur or leather? :greenalie

Agreed.... but is it any different killing an animal for the sake of enjoying it on your plate?

if humanity did not need those animals for those kind of cruelties...those animals would've become extinct a long time ago

Wait... let me see if I understand you correctly Ooze hun, you're saying unless people mass breed cows to slaughter them they would've otherwise become extinct? The state of endangered species is precisely that because of the poachers and hunters that seek the rhino’s horn or the minx's coat. It's because of humanity's greed and illusion of superiority that has brought so many animal species to extinction. And the manner in which cattle is farmed for the slaughterhouses I would believe extinction being a damn side better fate than the former!

Killing animals for meat is for survival. I know, you're going to say people can survive without eating meat... eh... I can't be bothered to argue that.
Killing animals for their fur no doubt used to be for survival purposes, what with caves being cold and all, but it no longer is.
Comparing hunting animals into extinction for their fur with farming animals for their meat is irrelevant, as far as I can see. Different cases.
Sorry. | |

I'm not saying that I'm in favor of the mindless killing. Far from it.
But if there wasn't a demand for meat any more, the mass amounts of cows, pigs, and whatever animal used for meat will be declining drastically. Because of the greed ppl have, and the lack of income generated by the holding of cows, ppl will abandon these activities.
As far as the rhino, or the minx's coat. It's cheaper to do it illegal.
Again..I'm not favoring that industry, but if one would hold rhinos and just saw off their horns (without killing them) the population would increase. Same goes for the minx population, despite the fact that they will have to be slaughtered to get their fur. But what if those animals were given a rich life (as far as possible in captivity) and when they die of old age..their fur can be gained..
And yes, greed does make blind.
Oh, heard about that cloning company that wants to return the tasmanian tiger? Not sure what I should think of that yet.

I have to admit to loving the smell and feel of leather, to using leather products often and even enjoying the feel of real fur, I dont own furs but I do enjoy them. I also eat meat and enjoy it but I enjoy so many live animals too....does any of this make sense, nope, but its a fact. Am I a hypocrit, yep.
I also appreciate and respect fully anothers choice to not do this, much as I do as a smoker in a non smokers space.
The stars and models I see banging on about the fur industry are largely wearers of more than faux leather wouldnt you say? Even if they wear only synthetics or cottons, they destroy too with the waste products and chemicals necessary to make synthetics or the utilisation of space to farm. And we rape the land to farm vegetables etc on the scale the world needs these days so even vegetarians or vegans take some responsibility..what do you wear? What of the space non domestic animals need to live, the sea we desecrate with industrial waste, the over fishing pearl harvesting etc? We take all that with our farms and cities too. They may not be outright causes of horrible deaths by actual human hand but they link to these deaths without doubt as we make extinct whole species by our wants and we drive other animals into tiny spaces where they cannot live so we stick them in zoos. We aid the destruction of animals daily by living in this industrialised over populated world and I love the use of electricty and cars and cities etc etc ad infinitum. These are valid points too, its about personal opinions and how we see ourselves and what we are personally willing to countenance. I guess we are all hypocrits in a way, and we dont live in the world as it once was where animals were once the main means of survival and durable warm clothing...but where do we draw the line, can we? Someone has to start somewhere and many do.

I, myself, get creeped out by fur coats/other garments with fur. Leather isn't as disturbing because it's not as apparent that it came from a beast.
I don't mind that animals are killed for their parts as long as all parts go to use. Besides, they're going to die, anyway. Why not die usefully? To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. I fucked Vincent Price

It is man's greed that has brought so many beautiful animals to extinction. How shameful I feel to be human sometimes.
Fur looks beautiful on animals and repulsive on humans.

I don't eat meat because I don't agree with the way they are slaughtered.
I try not to wear clothes that are made from animals. I've never worn real fur and try to stick to fake leather. Leather, however, is taken from cows that were slaughtered for their meat first, so in reality, it is good to see that they aren't being wasted.
I am glad to see that most people here disagree with wearing real fur.
