Our Jack Daniel's Black Label had been bottled at 86 proof since the late 1980s, when it was lowered from 90 proof. Within the last year, however, we have lowered the proof of Black Label to 80 proof. We began shipping the 80 proof bottles to a few states last year, and it will be in all states and the rest of the world within a few weeks.

The reason we lowered the proof is because we've noticed in recent years folks tend to prefer lower-proof products, and this includes most of our friends who enjoy our Tennessee Whiskey. We still make Old No. 7 using the same ingredients and process that Jack Daniel did when he began making it over 135 years ago -- we just add a little more of our cave spring water after it has aged.

I thought green label was the alternative if you wanted lower proof JD? I'd like to know where they're getting the idea that people want lower proof alcohol...

80, 90 proof, does it matter? Its still good, its still gonna get you drunk What the hell does 10 proof matter? Its not like you'll notice it as you're drinking.

If we won't notice, then why bother changing it if "folks tend to prefer lower-proof products" as the official statement says?

I preferred 100 proof Southern Comfort myself.

The problem with watering it down is it'll take more to make you drunk. Are they planning on keeping the black label JD the same price as when it was 90 proof? If so, it may make a difference in the wallet.

beam kicks daniel's ass anyway since its smoother and a true bourbon. if you want stout, go wild turkey. if you want to go real stout do the bacardi 151, but if you shoot it, then you must not like having an esophagus.

i didn't like my esophagus so i got the whole lot ripped out and replaced with a stainless steel digestive tract...now i can shot 151, scull soup and swallow chillis whole.

10 proof is about a extra beer a shoot i have to figure out for. i want to get as drunk as i use too off jack, not have to drink more.

The trick to 151 is that you can't inhale right away after shooting it haha

It makes my face feel like its burning anyway.
