Part 1

My love picked me up at 8pm
And we drove to the movies
We held each other all night long
I buried my head in his shouldar
During the scary parts
Our hands would touch

When they met in large popcorn
After the movie
We hop over to the local pizza place
We sat in a corner
All by ourselves
Unnoticed by all
We share a pizza and chocolate shake
With stomaches full
Our hearts content
We know a love
That poet's write about
Driving back to my house
Talking about tomorrow
We never saw it coming
The semi ran the light
So quickly did it happen
The glass cutting deep
Both of us were tossed 15 feet
A peice of metal went in my neck
Blood gushing out
Pooling on the cement
My love calls out
His voice calling my name
Dragging me from the darkness
Tears falling so fast
Gasping for breath
He reaches me at last
Some metal is sticking out of his temple
Glass gave him a gash above his eye
Blood mingles with his tears
I choke on a sob
At his appearance
Blood gurgles up out of my mouth
My hands flutter towards him
He pushes them down
Rest my love
You must live
He tears off a sleeve
Balling it up to place at my throat
Stopping my blood
From spilling out
Sirens are heard
His voice calls out
Paramedics surround us
That's where I passed out.

Part 2

I awoke in a bed
In a hospital room
Bandaged all up
And full of tubes
My mom by my side
Tears in her eyes
Thanking the lord
That I am alive
She runs down the hall
To sound the alarm
To tell the family
I finally come around
I whisper in a voice
Not like my own
My love?
Where is he?
Why am I alone?
A nurse turns away
To choked up to say
Rest now
You'll know later
Fear wells up inside
I started to cry
Is he dead?
No she says
Not yet
He lies in a coma
His vitals weak
I struggle to sit up
Much to her protest
I need to see him
Help me or leave!
Either way I will be with him today.
So she gets a wheel chair
And pushes me down a hall
Into ICU
And there he lays
Barely breathing
His life slipping away
I grab his hand
I'm here my love
What's wrong with him?
I ask the doctor who is hovering above
Some metal punctured his brain
If he awakes he may never be the same
Prey for him.
I love you so much
Please don't leave me
I did my part
I lived
So must you
There is so much we must still do......
So much I must say
Please..........don't let it end this way
The nurse pats my hand
He has lost a lot of blood
Beeps go off
The doctor's run
He grips my hand hard
His body arcs
Then it falls
His hand goes limp
Nothing moves
But a steady scream of the heart machine
He's dead
I'm pulled away
The doctor's try to frantically bring him back
They fail
He left me
It's over
If only I hadn't gone out with him that night?
We shouldn't have been talking
I should have been silent
I should have stopped his blood
I should have insisted he help himself
I should have........
I can't believe it
I'll never be the same
I can't forgive that other driver
He walked away
I can't forgive............myself.

Hiking along our favorite trail
I cry silently

The ground rushes up to meet me

Part Two

It is so dark
And the pain fluctuating through my head
Unbareable
My eyes flutter open
It is so dark
Gasping for air
My eyes slowly focus
My nose twitches as it catches a scent it recognizes
Smoke?!
Focused now I catch glimpses of smoke cover the stars up
I turn my head to the side
My gaze darkening in pain
Such a simple movement
Leaving me excusted
I see the flames
Eating at the trees like hungery children
Scavengers
Stealing every limb and leaf
Greedily seeking more
Fire!
The forest is on fire
Now the loud crackling
Deafens me
Pounding in my head
I must get out
I try to stand
But do not move
Panicked I try again
Nothing.........
I can't move
I try to wiggle a toe
Nothing
I can't move!!!!!!!!
Terror now takes over my body
My mind rebels against this
Then logic overcomes all
I'm paralyized
The fall
I must have broke my back in the fall
Now the forest is on fire
And I can't move
I will die..........
Before there was only pain
Now there is nothing
I feel nothing
Just acceptance
I watch the flames reach closer to my body
Now the sky completely covered
Not a star is seen
My lungs struggle against the invasion

It really is quiet beautiful

I remember all our picnics in this forest

The heat stretches towards my skin

Expected to be a wife and soon a mother?

Her troubled thoughts take comfort in the quiet stream

Plagued by another thought,
What will he want from her?

She must follow her husband.

Lord, I can't do this..........
Still she walks,
All her life she had been told that she was betrothed
But that meant little to a 5 year old
Now the day has arrived
She will take a husband........
Tears slip down her dark cheeks
Each one containing a lost dream
A lost hope
A lost rebellion
She must obey
To do otherwise would be to bring shame to her father
It was bad enough that she wasn't a boy........
She hangs her head and walks
Passing the gate where she normally stops
Not even aware of how far she has gone.
She looks up in time to see a young man
Sitting on a rock
Staring into the same river that she walks beside
She thinks about turning around
To flee before he notices her
Just now realizing how far she has gone
She is just about to turn
When the man looks up
His eyes
Saddened by years of burden and........
There is something else in his dark eyes
A pain like her own which holds her feet where they are.
They stare at each other for awhile
His eyes recognize her pain......
He shifts over, patting the rock in which he sits
She moves towards him
Her feet floating on a last hope
Preying to find what will be forever denied to her from now on.
She sits
His hand brushes away a last tear
And their lips touch
For just one perfect moment
She found what she was seeking
Understanding
Hope
Love
And so she took this precious gift
Giving back with her all her heart what she could.
Her head places itself on his shouldar
And his arm pulls her closer
They say nothing
Not one word
Just hold each other
Staring into the stream
Both crying for the last precious moment in time
Where they will be free to do this............
Night falls
And she stands up
Staring back into his soulful eyes
He reads in her that she must go
She reads in his that he understands.
She turns and her feet drag her way back to her home
There she sneaks in to her room and lays down
Closing her eyes to sleep she sees his eyes
And dreams about a forbidden man.

Her mother comes in the next morning
Waking her up
Chatting about how god is blessing this marriage with the sun
She stands as her mother dresses her
In a flowing hand sewn gown
All the hundreds of tiny pearls shining in the morning light
She listens with only half an ear
As her mother explains the painful union
Which she must submit to tonight
A tear escapes
Her mother fusses with her hair
Unknowing of the pain her daughter is in
Now it is time
Her father comes to the door to walk her down the isle
He kisses her cheek
Saying that today he is proud
To walk such a beautiful bride to her husband.
And down the isle he leds her
She passes the beautiful flowers
And candles of the church
She sees none of the thousands of faces turned towards her
Or hears none of the murmurs of praise and admiration
She sees nothing but one man
His back towards her
Then he turns
And her feet trip
It is he.......
The man by the stream.......
His eyes flash in recognization
He seems not to feel the slaps on his back in congratulations
His lips curve in a wide smile of delight
He steps up
Reaching for her hand
Pulling her up to the priest
They say their vows
Eyes never leaving each other
Both not believing their luck
Their eyes no longer filled with pain
But are filled with love.

I pick up my crystal bear

And the heavens open up
Pouring out all their pain until they are empty

I am awashed in pain

I turn into my apartment
And get ready for bed.
Trails of rain still flow down my cheeks
I sleep.
I wake up suddenly
Opening my eyes
Not moving I see a man
He is getting undressed in my room
I sit up

What the hell do you think you are doing?
No answer
No acknowledgement that he heard me
He sits on the bed
Then lays down
Sifting through me
A cold hair raising chill claims me
He is gone.
Shivering I lay down again
My mind disbelieving of what it seen.
There is no such things as ghosts.
Restlessly I sleep once more.
In the morning I arise
There is not a trace of the previous night visitor.
I shake it off as being a vivid dream
Going to make my morning coffee
I walk into the kitchen
A startled scream catches in my throat
He is there
Wearing loose jeans
Reading the paper over a cup of coffee.
I walk up to him
Demanding him to leave my house.
Asking him what he wants.....
Nothing
He doesn't even look up.
I sit across from him
My mind playing over every ghost movie it has even seen
Why are there ghosts?
What do they want?

I stare at him
Admiring his strong features
His dark looks
He is very hansome
A pity that he is dead.

All of a sudden his dark eyes go wide
He sees me!

A little dark haired girl drops her mom's hand to catch her balloon

I watch the mother scold her daughter
Both carring on as if I wasn't there
I step into someone else
Again they pass through me.
I walk towards a glass window of my apartment building
I see nothing of me
No reflection

Wait, no that isn't true
There is a hazy outline of me.
A blurry spot.
