My connection is very poor and I'm just curious to compare between my connection and yours. When you download a file you will get the follownig window please tell me what is the number you get in the red circle.

My average connection transfer speed, dependant on the remote server, varies between 0 and 56 KB/sec. DSL internet connection.

But I guess you use dialup modem. Dialups, on a bad phoneline or when using an old modem, are slow. Very slow...

mine is kinda strange. it goes up to 80+ Kb/sec with average about 40-50. i use cable modem though.

Cable modem is a shared medium. Transfer speed = Total Bandwith / Number of users (with a limit on how fast the cable modem itself is). (A)DSL does not have that problem.

Luckily i'm the only Internet user in the whole building. Actually by contract my connection should be 128 kbps, but strangely it's much faster and the paychecks that keep coming are only $25 instead of $40 per month, that it should be. Guess, I'm lucky

Depends on the remote connection. I can get up to 400 kB/s. I have cable and there are only about 300 people on the node and the node that I use can handle 1200. It's true that DSL dosen't share connection with others, however it is very dependent on how far you are from your command station. The farther you are, the worst your download and the more likely you are to have a bad connection.

Mine ranges from 0.8(yes it's been that low) to over 200(when i had cable). it's running near 5.something these days.. 56K modem

uh....if im at home using 56k....i get about 6 kb.....if im not surfing...
on the school server.....we can get upto about 72 kb...

well mine must just be hellah messed up to, i have a t-1 connection ramped to the school server in my dorm room and mine usually sticks right around .6kb to 3kb persec althought the LAN connection says i should be running as much as 800kb/sec crazy laptop and their intigrated crap

Try the old 1200/75 modems (pre-V.30). Then you will know slow. (if you type fast enough, you could flood yourself out of an IRC channel )
