In my opinion, success depends on three things: a) not hiring a hack to write the screenplay, b) Blizzard's close monitoring of said screenplay while it is being written, and c) an appropriate point in the history of the game for the movie to start and finish. If they try to cram too much story into a 2-hour movie, it's going to fail. Even if they make it a one-time LOTR-esque epic, it's still going to fail. Seeing as how there's a load of things that happen even before the first game's starting point, I think delving into WoW's more recent races (undead, tauren, etc.) would be pretty stupid.

I personally think they should focus on the first game: the orcs' arrival, and the fighting that ensues. It wouldn't be all that hard to fit in a nice narration that fills people in on how things started (James Earl Jones will be required, of course). The only problem with this is that a sequel would almost be essential, and I dunno if that'll happen, particularly with a game-based movie. Just look at the second Resident Evil movie *shudder*.

The clincher is the screenwriter, though. Video game companies always pick morons, and hype them up until they appear godly. I can never figure out why they just don't go with someone who is known to be really good. Soooo irritating. I'm very afraid of this movie; I'm not even sure I want to see it, but that doesn't mean I *want* them to butcher it. I just want a production crew who actually realizes that game-based movies suck balls, and decides to make sure that doesn't happen again.

It will suck. Too much backstory and too cartoony to really present a good fantasy movie. Blizzard should just put that money to good use and produce Diablo 3

they've already told the story in the games, if they want to make a movie, well, don't. write a NEW story, and make a game from it.

Here is a brilliant strategy if they are actually going through with it: Use the people involved in the Warcraft Universe. And I agree with (Anti) on this one, its gonna have to span multiple movies to go well. I personally think that the best point would be to start with The Burning Legion approching Ner'tul(or however thats spelt) with the promise of power, if he uses the orcs to invade Azeroth, and take over. However, instead of live action its something that might work better as a CG movie. Hell enlist the aid of Square-Enix for it.

They are making a Diablo 3 already.

That being said the movie is comming anyway.

I agree with (Antihero) it would be essential for Bliz to be close on the project and not let any hacks get in on it. SUpposedly they have some kind of veto power over which screenwriter gets the pick so thats good at least.

I am mad that its going to be live action rather than CGI since Bliz could do CGI almost completely in house and make a great flick... ah well. We will see I guess.

Well from what little info I have garnered, they aren't going to base it on any one game, but within the universe. A production company called Legendary Pictures, is making it with Warner Bros. Co-financing the production

I just dont think a real time movie will capture the feel of the game. WoW is cartoony, we LIKE it cartoony. Make a cartoon.

some of the characters will HAVE to be CG, i can't imagine people stomping around in giant tree of life suits.

though, human actors and cg would probably make for a good film. give it a little bit more life. a bit more feeling to it.
