A new game for the PS2, RPG one that is, is coming out soon.
It has taken what I can only say is a clone of Link and placed it as the main character.
In the beginning your town is lost (FF Mystic Quest anyone?)
Then there is a part where you rebuild it (SimCity)
Can't forget the fact that the weapons are breakable and repairable (There's gotta be a game that has stuff like this)
Then there's that big flying ugly dog furry thing (Which looks almost exactly like that giant dog thing from Neverending Story)
Plus a bad guy who looks like a pig (Ganon?)
Wow... such originality.. no?
It also has a lock on system much like the one found in that Link game...
AND there are some twins or something like that in the home town(That Link game for SNES)
AND I haven't even looked at everything else pertaining to it.. instead I just threw the thing aside... but really if it has this many stuff that is based on other games, then it has to have more.
I think it's called Dark Cloud... can't remember.
Comments? (Also if you know what it is, then please relay that to us) (\ /)

dark cloud is gonna rule...the cool thing about it is that sony is programming it so that means that it will show what the ps2's all about

It might "rule", but it still has a lot of unoriginal parts to it.
I can tell you this about it.. the graphics are amoung the best that the PS2 games have thus far, plus there are almost no loadtimes outside of the game, whereas in the game it is close to instant. A sequel is already being made, with better graphics (scary thought). (\ /)

hi,
maybe it's a rip-off, but i don't really mind that as long as the game plays like a ps2 title should...and i haven't seen a game match these requirements
What i don't get is, that the programmers start the sequel with "better" graphix when their previous title wasn't even released yet...why don't they just make the graphix better in the prequel???
can you program Preston??

I can do some programming with HTML, QBasic, and the normal online coding found on most CircleMud muds.
I will be learning some VB soon though... hopefully. (\ /)

QBasic's the only language i know...visual c++ is just so fucking hard...so i guess i'll just keep programming with the good ol' QBasic..
I just don't how to make masks in screen 7...the background always gets smeared when i walk over it with my character...any tutorials you know???

so what if Dark Cloud has alot of simularities to Zelda... game creators are trying to cater to gamers' preferances.
********
Game Designer: "Ok, what kinda game to people want that hasnt been done much on our machine?"
Marketing Analyst: "Well we haven't done much in the vein of {insert popular game here}'s style of gameplay, and its a big hit so obviously people like its feel..."
Game Designer: "Hmmmm...."

That's why the radio is filled with clones of other bands, because record companies are trying to sell Korn as many times as possible... "the kids like Korn? ok, here's korn dressed like goths with a chick bassist! here's korn in orange jumpsuits! ok, here's korn with stupid facepaint! here's korn as a bunch of 12 year old girls!" the same with movies, television and most other forms of media. no... i think the industry is always growing... there will always be emulators of a good system for the very reason its good... because IT WORKS AND PEOPLE LIKE IT... despite that there is still more revolutionary things happening as people do their best to develop new ideas... i mean look "skies of arcadia"... they took some standard elements of rpgs and added some very revolutionary concepts to their battle systems and questing capabilities, and need i mention how, well, "odd" oddworld was when it first came out.
as for your music metaphor... for every carbon copy that is created from something good, there is something new and different waiting in the wings (and, as is often the case, already out there)
you cant really judge the growth of the music medium based on MTV's stipend bands... their primary demigraphic are whiny teens who WANT to be told whats cool since they cant figure that out for themselves... most of that ends by college where true diversity of music taste begins (but this is off the subject of games so ill stop now) ___Nick_the_Rogue___ To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. In the same vein, how many innovative quality games do you estimate get glossed over when they aren't ultra bloody first person shooters, ridiculous combo-ridden fighting games, or a Squaresoft produced RPG? Help Us Make A Difference!

Ever play Evil Zone?
Tis a fighting game... and quite simple to play. Button mashing CAN prove to be one of the most useful tactics for winning... but not always. I've been able to beat it on the hardest difficulty level by using the right moves at the right times, whereas my cousin (12 years old) button mashes, and can't even beat it on the easiest level.
It has received bland reviews though, since people don't like the overly simple battle system, nor how short it is... (laughs a bit at that).
I can say this though, the fighting system is by far superior to Tekkens, and pertaining to how short it is... well... all fighting games are "short" since all you really have to do is kick someone's ass and then you win the game.. ooohhhhh.
It does offer forth some... interesting outfits for some of the females though... plus the ability to play the scantly clad boss who yells "Go to Hell!" at you when she executes one move...
I can say though that they failed bad in "dubbing" it though, horrible lip-synch or whatever that's called...
Another game that is great but from what I have seen has never gotten any reviews from the "big zine people" would be Ball Blazer Champions... PSX version. The NES version sucks.. plain and simple... but the PSX version is astounding... it rules.. it kicks arse darnit... some slow down occurs but only when going super fast through an area with tons of explosions...
What am I getting at? Well first off during the mid 1900's... 1950-1970 or some crap like that... there was the fact that DJ's were payed money to play certain songs by certain... people. I believe this still occurs, but now it is more or less that certain people (Sony, etc) are taking advantage of the fact that they have a lot of money and "fame", so they pay off reviewers to review their games and give them above par grades.... this is evident since at least half of the Sony/Squaresoft games that I have seen reviewed in the one zine I used to get have all received at least four and a half... where as stuff such as Spec Ops (Hey, this game doesn't suck, it just got coded badly since the people who did it aren't that good) get ratings such as .5... although they are much more entertaining.. much more difficult... and much longer and have greater replayability... (2 player for Spec Ops rules... whoooo)
Anywho... (\ /)

Breakable and repairable weapons are in the old Betryal at Krondor game.
Speaking of bad translation, I'm sure that you all have heard of "All your base are belong to us"?
God that was funny when I played ZeroWing and after I heard about that and watched the intro... Hey, bread is a good time for me...a-woodle-oo-doo, singing bread is a good time for EVERYbody...

second, you can't "hate" a whole genre of music just because some other band founded it. FUCK, you could only listen to 10 bands...
Oh, and what I quoted was another hint that you dislike slipknot...so...yeah
