Let me tell you something and discuss it with you:

I always listened to rock and blues music so in few words to good music.I also spend a lot of time with my rock friends.And I had some kind of feeling not to pay attention to those who did not listen to that kind of music.I thought that that they are simply wasting their time etc.I think that music plays an important role,music creates person...Am I wrong? Now I have different kind of friends who listen to different music.

So my question is:

Should we judge people by music?

Of course not. Who the hell does that? I'd prefer that people I like listen to my kind of music, but what if they don't? I usually know if I like someone before I even know what they listen to.

No, music does not define a person. I know people who are total dicks that listen to the same stuff that I do... so, should I be drawn to them just because they like the Dillinger Escape Plan or Converge? Nah, that's just stupid. Only moronic highschoolers would pull some shit like that.

exactly, most of my friends don't listen to my music and vice versa, we have problems in the car cause no one can agree, but we trade off and it works. artistic appreciation can not be generalized to personality traits. and what about people who have no specific genre they listen too? are they erratic in personality? do they not have friends?

i agrees.....me: death metal, black metal, extreme metal, some gothic techno, fleetwood mac, yaddah, yaddah, yaddah.......a lot of my friends listen to techno, some rap, some country.....so, who cares........if i'm at their place, i listen to their shit....if they're at my place, they listen to my shit

There is rime when we are addicted to something...sometimes we stand on right and wrong ways...and everything what happens helps you to chose between good and bad...Sometimes we understand this consequence and sometimes not...

I think it could work in reverse, music doesn't dictate a person's personality, but their personality can dictate the music they listen to, so you can sometimes guess what a person's like by the music they listen to by following that path backwards. It's not written in stone, but nothing in psychology is.

I personally listen to just about everything. Currently, it's DMX, but I have a Johnny Cash CD on hand, along with Montgomery Gentry, Jet, Saliva, Bone Thugz N Harmony, and Metallica. I don't buy techno CD's but I certainly listen to techno music, same goes for classical... I love Irish tunes, I have 2 Clancy Brother's CD's and one bagpipes of Scotland. Bagpipes bring me to tears sometimes. I even listen to Michelle Branch, Rod Stewart, and Pink. That's right, bring on the insults. I can still kick your ass.

This all fits my personality, which changes from person to person, group to group. At medieval reenactments I've been known to throw down NWA rhymes. But around me psuedo-gangsta friends? Alan Stivell, celtic tunes. Around metalheads and pop types I act very stoic most of the time, trying to project an air of nobility and regal features, but around people who act too stuck up I go total redneck. I think there's something in me that either enjoys balancing things out, or just trying to annoy the shit out of people.
