I have a computer that just had a power failure. Keep in mind that I have 2. The computer that quit has two Hard drives and I want to take out the secondary hard drive and put it in my other computer. I do not however want to lose any of the information on it. Will it need to be partioned again or is there something else I can do. I was told that I can switch it and nothing will happen to the HD. Please Help.

if your removing the secondary drive from one computer and inserting it into another you should be fine. you won't lose any of the information off of it nor will it have to be partitioned. The biggest thing you will have to make sure ofis to see if the drive is set as master or slave and the position of what cjhain your puttingit on. if you are putting it on the primary IDE chain in the second slot, it would have to be set to slave. that also holds true if you are putting it on the seconadry slot on the secondary IDE chain. though if you are placing it on the primary slot of the secondary IDE chain it would have to be set to primary. Don't worry to much about changing it over, unless the information is already lost, it should be perfectly fine.

just always remember to touch the metal part of the case before touching anything inside the computer

Crypt pretty much has it right on the nose.... you can even switch off your primary if you want and decide which OS you want to start your puter up under.....

The only problem with doing that bro, would be that the two computers would have to be exactly the same. If you take a drive from one computer that is runningn OS nd insert it into another, you would have to go through the process of reloading the OS. Bty the sounds of it he wants to take his "dump" drive where he keeps his info and move it over to his working computer. If he wished to take both drives out and use both OS, he better be prepared for thesometimes hassle of doing so.

Yeah both comps are running the XP. One problem I just thought of though is that the one comp with the two hard drives is running XP SP1 and the one I want to put it into is running XP SP2. Would that make any difference?

About the drive. It's already set to slave. I just want it move it from the one comp to the next.

you should be ok man. S P1 and SP2 i think only effects the OS. The question i do have is the secondary drive, does it have programs or just dump files?

It has media and video games installed on it.
