Rocky VI 'to focus on aging Balboa'

Sylvester Stallone has spoken about reprising his role of Rocky Balboa the boxing champion in the sixth film, called Rocky Balboa.

The 59-year-old star will write and direct the new movie which he is due to shoot in Philadelphia and Las Vegas next year.

Stallone told the Daily Variety trade magazine the movie will focus on an ageing, widowed Rocky who is reluctant to get back in the ring but ends up doing so "just to compete, not to win."

"I am drawing on a lot of my feelings that are in sync with many people's feelings about facing the last chapter of their lives and how they want it to be written," Stallone said.

Dan Taylor, president of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, which is co-producing the film, said the movie focuses less on boxing and more on character.

"It's about self-examination, an opportunity to see what kind of person he is and act on it," Taylor said.

It was not immediately clear whether actress Talia Shire, who appeared in the five previous Rocky films as the boxer's love interest, Adrian, will return in the sixth instalment, said Stuart Herriot, a spokesman with Revolution Studios, which is co-producing the film.

"In the script, she did pass away, but it's unsure whether she might appear in a flashback or in older footage," Herriot said. "It's too early in the production to tell."

But, Herriot said, actor Burt Young is expected to return in Rocky Balboa as Adrian's brother, Paulie.

Stallone wrote all the Rocky films and directed the second, third and fourth entries.

I will definatly go see it. Stallones best writing were the 1st and 2nd Rocky films and I bet this one will go back to that style. while of course 3rd and 4th ones were still good they lacked the heart that the 1st 2 had. I bet this one will catch it though.

I say bring this fucker on. What? Would you guys rather have Hollywood eventually pump out some rotten ramake of the Rocky films? Fuck its already bad enough that theyre actually considering remaking John Carpenter's classic-Halloween,just look at how they fucked up another one of his great ones-The Fog.

Bring on Rocky 6 and that aging motherfucker,pronto.
Because thats all thats happening nowdays-remakes,we may as well have the originals returning then.

What pisses me off is they've killed off just about all the Rocky supporting characters in the series,unless you count that dweeb kid of his,eh,fuck him,little cunt. Paulie and Balboa are like the only ones left,unless they somehow manage to fit Clubber Lang in there somehow. Which would actually rock.

I like that this one will focus less on boxing and more on how he is reflecting on his life as a fallen champion. The 1st 2 movies did so well because he was a pure antihero. Then he became Mr. Wonderful and it kinda got boring. I want to see him return to his antihero roots maybe start breaking thumbs again for cash.

Oh dear Lord what have we done to deserve this... The first two films were very good indeed, they concentrated more on Rocky the man rather than Rocky the boxer. I don't see how Stallone with his now Hollywood sized ego could possibly rekindle that.

I am not so sure about that. Ive read a lot of interviews about the guy and he isnt money hungry the way some people are. Which might be why he spent the last10 years not doing much movie wise and being with his family.

But if you got 50 some million dollars you would be amazed at how quick it can be wiped out in a bad investment or through crazy taxes.
