I just dont see the point in retro gaming anymore with the constant updates and return to the SNES old skool with the Gameboy Advance why would people bother with dated games like Pac Man?Even that game has sequel after sequel but the original is still popular.Isnt their a better way to recreate your youth than playing a tired old game?

The fact of the matter is that while those games might not have magna-graphics, nor stereo picture effects quality or whatever, their concept is incredibly unprimitive and very entertaining, something aside from all the harsh blood and gore games that are in rotation in this day and age, the concept of destruction is there, but it's exhibited in a totally different manner.

I know the gameplay comes first debate but I dont think that there was that big a gap in quality between games now and games then as some make out to be.

But when games lost their childish spunk and gained intuitive storylines and plot, that's when they became complicated, don't get me wrong, I always enjoy really complicated games but I'm talking for the sake of those games here, I enjoy them also and the reason why is the lack of graphics, not just digital graphics as a whole but the graphic violence and plotline also.

Isnt that just the kind of thing you can get from handhelds though? Reduced graphics and sound so only the gameplay really shines through?

Exactly, that's why I love pokemon so much.

Too many platformers out for the old Gameboy though so its not much of a suprise that the quality games stand out.The trading card game they did for the GB was good too.

Yeah, I'm just obsessed with pokemon in general though....
Pokemon red, blue, yellow, green, gold, silver, crystal, trading card game, snap, stadium, stadium 2, puzzle challenge, the original pokemon series, the orange island series, the johto journeys series, the new johto league master series, all three films, the cards, coloring books, figurines, I like drawing pokemon, I like studying pokedexes, I like people who like pokemon.....

Damn, even I`d get sick of them after all that.

hehehe....it really is an obsession though, I never tire of pokemon, I dream of being an actual pokemon master, I love my psychotic attributes....

Uh Simon... your about as obsessed with Pokemon as I am with Digimon.

But back to the subject. The way I see I don't like handheld games that much. When you compare Mortal Kombat between hand held and console, console wins hands down. And it aint because of better graphics and sounds, but because it is advanced not just in those areas, but gameplay is much better.

However, when I compare Spider-Man for the genesis and for the playstation, genesis wins. Simply because they spent to much in terms of graphics and so-called complexity, that there was little challenge at all in it. (I beat it in the first day.) Whereas Spider-Man for the genesis I have yet to beat. (I still can' get past sandman.) Then again, there is that whole replayability factor. I would rather play Spider-Man for the playstation over and over again then the one for genesis.

But when you go really far back in time, like Atari days, then I can see why you definitly want to play newer games instead. Don't get me wrong, I loved the days before Nintendo came out with the... nintendo. But once you've played Centiped, Donkey Kong, Pac Man and stuff then you've pretty much played them out. Then again, maybe I'm the only one that doesn't like to pick up and dust off my old controllers.

Nevertheless though, I still have respect for the old games. Why, without Skate or Die for the Nintendo, we wouldn't have Tony Hawk Pro skater. Without that old Karate fighting game whose name currently escapes me, we wouldn't have all these fighting games today. (In which alot of them are in 3d I might add)

And without Duck Hunt, we wouldn't have all those FPS's out there like Duke Nukem and Half-Life and Quake.

Then again, maybe I talk to much. In fact, I think this is my longest post in this forum. Uh... I'm scared.

Also, older games have a certain nostalgia to them (which is a plus). And generally speaking, the storylines have been just as good in some of the older games. why do people expect Intellivision and Coleco sports games to have as much length and depth as a recent RPG? there weren't many good RPG's ''back in the day'', but every other genre was nicely covered with sufficient depth. Please, they expect too much.

true, recent games are more digitally enhanced and more complicated than older games, but the ''fun'' aspect seems to be absent. ESPECIALLY with RPG's (i'm not picking on RPG's specifically, but today it's one of the most popular genres). Now, RPG's are all-talk, no-action. Skip through the FF series. Did you have as much monster spanking in, oh, FF IX, as in FFIII? ha.

Well ain't that a big hell no, no, not much monster spanking at all....but then there was the original Final Fantasy, which revolved around monster spanking....
