Hot Ticket = Leonard Maltin and some pretentious chick who didnt even take a standard length of time to review it, twenty seconds plus a resounding "Not"? what kind of fair deal is that. I just think that they dont want to acknowledge that it was a great movie that was based on a video game (heaven forbid)...

bastards... i pray RE does well, so well that they will be BEGGING to take back their harsh words

Everyone I know who's seen it has liked it.

It ruled. It has replaced my first favorite movie slot (previously held by Matrix, and before that Aliens) due to the overwhelmingly perfect execution of... well... everything.

Let's break it down.

Script: This is a fantastic script that was clearly graced by the hands of the original makers of Resident Evil. Like all Resident Evil releases this story does not interfere with the storyline (with a single reservation). The settings were changed to a small degree but I imagine this was done only because the creators of Resident Evil would create such a fantastic setting, had they they game hardware at the time.

Acting: Acting was fantastic, from the primary actors to the smallest bit zombie part. I think they did a good job in getting the audience to form a bond with the characters when they had such little time to learn anything about them.

Effects: Surprisingly there was only three items/objects/characters in the entire movie that I could tell were computer generated. Aside from that, everything looked like it was live action. Make-up, costumes, blood, gore, scenery, and of course explosions (of the fiery, shrapnel, blood, gel, and misc. liquid variety they had them all) were all top-notch.

Intelligence: Many movies are produced which host a number of approaches to a number of different philosophies. Aliens was poetic, begging questions of certain traits of humanity. The Matrix asked us to take a long hard look at our environment, and our own thoughts. Resident evil shows signs of many interesting approaches to many different questions of a somewhat philosophical nature. A good movie must have such elements in order to make it onto my "beloved" list. Matrix was a bit of a stretch, it brought these things to the fore-front thereby simplifying the nature of its arguments. Resident Evil clearly leaves these things in the background for us to pick out and analyze when we've got it on DVD...

I'd really like to discuss many specific events here but I don't want to ruin the movie for anyone. Overall my review would be a complete, one-hundred percent, perfect movie. Fuck, I say again, Fuck Queen of the Damned. This is an action packed horror flick that outdoes any other since 2000, while reviving the dead Zombie genre (ironic when you think about it). I had my reservations, it being the product of a game. But I entered with high expectations none-the-less and exited far from dissapointed. I intend to see this next weekend, and the weekend after that, and the weekend after that...

Don't wait to see this movie any longer.

so what was your one exception? mine was that the lab was so far from the mansion... but that was acceptable. at least now i know why scientist zombies got caught in the mansion instead of confined in the lab...

My one exception being that the man who stole the T-Virus in the movie isn't named Wesker. Get what I'm saying? There is, of course, a possible explenation of there being more of the T-Virus in the lab than what we saw in the movie. But still, it's enough to make me suspicious of the script.

well, the T virus was in the mansion at the end of the movie... hmm, it could be assumed that Wesker was the dude in the biochemcial suit who took Mabius away... i think someone should post the complete plotline of the series as derived from the games to compare with this... know a site? i dont wanna miss anything...

Hmm, indeed very possible. You must remember that the beginning of the movie started before RE1 and ended somewhere in the middle of RE2. And between I'd assume that Claire and Leon are entering Raccoon city shortly after the main character of the RE movie picked up the shotgun.

I'd say that in relation to the original story line that the computer controlling the facility is the most interesting contribution. Beyond that it adds a very sophisticated element to the movie, being that the computer didn't go haywire and was acting logically throughout the entire length of the movie.

I used to play the game. The game is cool. So I hope the movie will be to. Some of the movies they make from games don't end up as good. Like Tomb Raider. I don't think it was a very good movie. That is my opion. The guns she had were cool though. *smiles*

well, since RE:G2 has already been greenlit (new care of IGN.com) then it might be a fairly safe to speculate on two hypothesis...

A)the Milla will meet up at some point with the Cast of RE1/RE2 at various places in the timeline (maybe we get to find out how the chopper pilot from RE1 died and went zombie... damn, what was his name)...

this seems less likely than

Milla finds other survivors who are consistent with the story but not directly involved with the Redfield/Valentine characters...

Well it is hard to say with the movies they come out with now. I am sure the grafics are cool on the movies. I guess I will just have to see the movie before I judge. I am just thinking it won't what they are making it out to be.

Dont get anyone wrong dude, it was a good flick, but it was far form great or even super. Most of the characters were card board, not to mention that fuckin Paul Anderson being the cock monky he is had the balls to us CGI for some of his xombies instead of just hiring a good SFX man like Tom Savini...which IMO makes his zomebies more laughable than believeable. But when they were trapped in that room on the way to the Red Queens lair..woah. that rocked it reminded me of the Cube a lil bit.

Overall i would have to give this flick a 7.5 or an 8 out of 10, it was fun to watch but it didnt stimulate my feelings or my intellect the same way Romero films did.

Romero's films are good, I admit.

But did you ever see Event Horizon? This is the same director. And I'd have to say Event Horizon was a lot more intellectual stimulation than Night of the Living Dead was...

EH didnt do anything for me, in fact i was rather bored with it. And as far as intellect goes NOTLD to me was way more intelectual..i mean it was done in the 60's too for christs sake.

It deals mroe with raw human feelings, and the torment of clostrophobia...EH..meh just another more modern day biig budget movie...nothing special. and its sad that NOTLD is more famous and hearaled as better by critics all across the board then something like EH which is lukewarm....thats sad too considering EH was done with a better crew, better technology, better effects, better funding etc etc...i guess in the end storyline does find a way of winningout..and plot.

the original NOTLD was a great movie... but id like to make two points here...

A)Event Horizon had more claustraphobic undertones due its location, the nature of a possesed ship, and the hard to discern psyhodynamics of the crew.

Just because NOTLD was done in the sixties doesnt mean its the end all be all of frighteners. The mood, the ambiance, the threat told in EH was much more effective than NOTLD's ambling zombies and casebook psychodynamics of the trapped.
