A trendy album? The Wall? You're a dick. Who gives a rat crap how popular it is? I love Pink Floyd, that's all that really matters. "Please, no tears. It is a waste of good suffering."

I believe The Wall is their best album. But you're sooooo, like, right and stuff. Would you like me to like, name some others? Because I, like, totally want you to think I'm like cool and phat and tight and stuff.
The first Floyd album I bought was "Ummagumma", but I found it trite and boring and not the least bit innovative. So I checked out "Relics". Again I found it boring. So next came "Atom Heart Mother". Finally, an album that interested me. Then I saw the movie and bought "The Wall" and "Dark Side of the Moon". Those two albums were much better. Their music was artistic, but not so much so that it didn't make any sense.
So, like, call me trendy again. Because I, like, really want your approval and stuff. In Memory of the Busby Babes :

"wish you were here" is one of my favorites, along with "the wall" and "dark side of the moon." i also own "the division bell" which is good to, although roger waters didn't work on it.. it doesn't sound a lot like pink floyd but i like it anyway nothing to fear. nothing to doubt.

I don't know how to describe it. Maybe I should let someone else do it...
Mellow guitars, cool rhyrthms... insanely great lyrics. Anti-government. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

my friend tetsujin always called it "acid music.." and i believe that fits. it all very mellow, and it's all about flow. it's ethereal, intricate, and divine. it's meant to be
artistic but is not "artsy." it is not poppish at all, and you
should check it out.. it's some of my favorite music.
yes, yes, god yes, "comfortably numb" is SUCH a beautiful song. i love it to death. some other favorites are "shine on, you crazy diamond" "us and them" and the more modern "wearing the inside out." nothing to fear. nothing to doubt.

Oh you people... Ummagumma not trite and boring, acid rock, I SHOULD KILL YOU ALL!
Ummagumma is incredibly innovative. Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict is one of the strangest songs ever made. And I love Grantchester Meadows and The Narrow Way.
As for "acid rock" that is another bullshit label attempting to classify something that cannot be classified. Pink Floyd is so many different kinds of music at once, its impossible to fit it into a genre. Their stuff varies from the trippy (Early Floyd) to the hauntingly strange (glory days) to the almost progressive, yet musically beautiful (post-Waters). And even within each of those time periods the music still differs greatly. The difference between Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall is huge, the albums sound nothing alike and they are only separated by a few years. Try listening to Piper at the Gates of Dawn, and then comparing that to Division Bell... you will swear you have two completely different bands (and truth be told... you almost do). If you have to put a label on them, just call them "Rock".
Pink Floyd is more than music to me... its more than an obsession. It's like sometimes I sit and wonder why I bother to care so much about the things I care about. Why, with so many ignorant fools running wild in this world and living in stupid bliss, why must I feel so passionate about things that others could care less. Listening to Pink Floyd reminds me of the importance of that passion. They remind me who I am, and why I am that way. Some people think that's stupid... but to hell with those people. To hell with anyone that can't understand. Their minds are simply too small.

that was interesting. and i agree that pink floyd is hard to categorize.
i haven't heard "piper at the gates of dawn" or "ummagumma," so i wouldn't know.. wasn't "piper" their 1st release, and didn't sid garret work on it? also, have you heard "meddle" or "obscured by clouds?" are those any good? nothing to fear. nothing to doubt.

AUUGH!
Syd Barret. Not Sid Garrett. Christ.
Yes, meddle is very good. I haven't heard Obscured by Clouds yet.
And to be honest, I don't really like Piper. It's not bad, but it just sounds too much like the Beatles. Still it was an important point in their development, and should not be overlooked.
