its quite simple to control your kids viewing habits with todays technology... and if your kids cannot grow and mature enough to handle things in incriments (say: Fraggle Rock => Gilmore Girls => CSI => ER => Oz) over the years, then you're doing nothing to help their ability to assimilate and digest new and more complex themes and images.

Janet Jackson did something pathetic with little to no artistic merit. but there are countless movies that have been edited and lose much out of it because their characters ludicrously shout "judas priest" in an obvious overdub or lose entire scenes because the villain of a piece rips off a heroine's shirt because he's trying to rape her.

Audiences would understand the nature of the scene just as well without showing the breast. If I saw a shot of a woman in a mirror, obviously naked, and crying.. and the plot had already been set up telling me she had breast cancer, I would naturally assume what she's crying about. Showing the tits aren't necessary. Same goes with a man screaming "Fuck". That's not necessary, either. Man falls off cliff. Man will die. His use of one of the more taboo explatives is, again, not necessary.

You're referring to movies that were already released uncensored, with an R rating. Key point being THEY WERE ALREADY RELEASED UNCENSORED. If someone wants to see titties in a rape scene, then buy the DVD. If someone wants to hear "cocksucking motherfucker", then buy the DVD. Editing isn't restricted to just "inappropriate" content. They edit for time, often cutting out key plot points. THAT'S WHY I DON'T WATCH MOVIES ON REGULAR TV.

I repeat, if you want to see titties, contextual or otherwise, then invest in movie channels. Or turn on Bravo. They show titties late at night.

it shouldn't have to be necessary, it shouldn't be censored at all... you'd think we'd learned our lessons from the CCA or the PCA... if people aren't of strong enough mind to make their own judgements on what to watch and what not to watch, then they shouldn't own a television.

we were finally getting there... to a place on television where the art was all. theme and imagery was the end all be all. now we've had one attorney general that couldn't stand a sculpture with a nipple and another who's made it his mission to ban "obscene" material despite the fact that it's between concenting adults.

you wanna protect the children? TEACH THEM. don't cover their ears and eyes. and certainly don't limit what producers can brodcast over the air when your kids should be in bed, not watching an ADULT DRAMA.

Network television has existed over 60 years without showing rampant nudity. I, for one, could give a shit less if they never show dicks and tits on network tv. THAT'S WHY WE HAVE CABLE.
