First off, this is something that extends from the My Dying Bride thread. Read what I said there for an explanation.
Basically, I will talk of or show you bands that I feel are trying too hard to be whatever they claim to be and look funny as hell doing so.
So to start with, I BELIEVE this band is called Profanatica, though I am not totally sure.

Besides the fact that Avril is underaged, she is in fact not hot. I've seen candid, un-made-up and undoctored pics of her. What you see when you watch her videos or stroke off to her in Rolling Stone is CG'd to death to make her look like someone you want very much to impregnate. These computer alterationists are devious and very skilled. They can lengthen legs, alter bust size and refabricate smiles to include perfect teeth. They also habitually take all the red out of models' eyes (from the veins that run across them), leaving behind shiny whiteness.

The concept of image is something I recently debated on another message board. Fact is, you can't separate image and music, there will always be an image no matter what. However, many take this to strange, magical places. Assume magical to mean fairy in the case of Manowar, who look like a box cover for a gay porn. Not that I have ever seen box covers for gay porn. Uh, a friend who has told me.
Sometimes, while they may seem to go too far, an artist or band will come up with something that's at least interesting. I think Mortiis has an interesting concept. Well, it does become less interesting as the image gradually becomes less relevant given his new direction. As far as I know not many trolls are into industrial. Emperor even felt this crisis as they felt their music to no longer reflect the slightly medieval look they had going, and searched in vain for a new, modern image before disbanding.
Then we have that very first pic. Now, when I saw the disclaimer denoting adult content I wasn't expecting to see pictures of mentally immature freaks. I swear, those degenerates must be so lonely that they have to slip their hands rohypnol to get any action.
As the image aspect of rock music goes on unabated people become more desensitized and restrictions become more lax. Don't get me wrong, this was part of the idea in the beginning. But the tragic side effect is that rock musi needs the controversy to keep it exciting. As it becomes more acceptable, even more outlandish things need to be thought up to continue shocking others. Where does that leave us? With three guys throwing paint at each other and exposing their genitals.

Oh, an interesting note on how ridiculous these "frightening" images can become.
Mortiis was in New York doing some promos, in full costume of course, and was attacked by an elderly woman while trying to hail a cab. Seems upon seeing him she freaked out and began trying to kill the evil troll.

ive also heard her on the radio doing an acoustic version of one of her songs, i dont know what one, and she was talking on the radio in an interview and it was blatantly obvious she was prompt scripted, and had no idea what she was doing, or about her songs and new album.. they write for her (although she says she writes..) and well, it was SHIT. i had to run away out of the room in an attempt to save my sanity! it was so disgusting! i can sing better! stupid ugly teenage slut.
