LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Hard rockers Metallica, who long refused to make available individual songs from its albums for sale online, has begun doing so on the iTunes Music Store.
Beginning on Tuesday, the band put up four of its records -- "Kill 'Em All," "Ride The Lightning," "Master of Puppets" and "...And Justice For All" -- for sale on U.S. and Canadian versions of the popular online music retailer.
Fans may buy tracks a la carte for 99 cents or purchase the albums, starting at $9.90.
In a posting on the group's Web site, the band acknowledged that fans have been increasingly buying music online and said it added some previously unreleased live tracks recorded in Seattle in 1989 to each of the albums to entice those who already own copies.
The group, which in the early part of the decade led the charge against the original Napster online file-sharing service, has previously made its albums available for purchase online through retailers and its own Web site.
Other holdouts for Apple Computer Inc.'s iTunes include the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Radiohead.

thing is, when you've got a wallet so big you could beat whales to death with it, you really should just ease up a bit.
i've been hit by the downloading/copying thing, and its kinda hurtful... years ago was selling my band cds at a gig, and some people were queueing up and a guy bought one, then the guy behind him stood there and when i asked if he wanted one he said...
"nah, i'll just borrow his and copy it"
now, £3 for a EP, well, its not much, and considering the price of recording in the studio, buying the cds, buying the slipcases, printing the inserts, well... we'd have to sell about 100 to recoup that. and we never did. we sold about 30, and gave away the rest. oh well. it was fun. and after all, isnt that what it's about?
