The prices for todays software are crazy, having to pay through the nose for a DVD based computer game and then find out its not up to par is not exactly going to aid the industry. The majority of games are aimed at the younger player, the one that is struggling through collage or still at high school how can they support the games systems if its out of their financial range?
Until someone comes up with a solution to bring games down to a reasonable mainstream pricepoint the gaming industry`s growth will suffer from its own greed and elitism.
I`m not going to pay £45/$60 for a game. ^_^ Work is of two kinds: first, altering the position of matter at or near the earth's surface relatively to other such matter; second, telling other people to do so.

Yeah, the prizes are crazy. Almost nobody buyed legal copies here, because the prizes were the same as in Eurpope/USA, but people earn MUCH less money here... That was until they started bringing games, that was specifically released for Russian market. Some game companies realised that until they lower the prices, they'll have no sales at all in the region. They came with a solution to release special "jewel box" editions of games. Such edition contains no manual (who needs them anyway, i can figure anything on my own), no box, just a CD case, registration sheet, and CD itself. In the result we get an absolutely legal copy of a game that people can buy for $5-8. Just to name a few games that were released this way:
Heroes of Might & Magic 3
Heroes of Might & Magic 4
Might & Magic 8
Might & Magic 9
Jagged Alliance 2 and 2.5
Operation: Flashpoint
Max Payne
Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor
Septerra Core
Rune
Disciples 2
... and quite a lot of others.

That sounds good.I missed out on the two Heros of Might and Magic games that you listed because of the price and the lack of avaliblity in my area once they came down in price. Are the Jewel Box games all PC titles over there?
I just got second hand versions of FFX and Monkey Island 4 BTW(£55 for both)thats even more money out of developers hands.:/ Work is of two kinds: first, altering the position of matter at or near the earth's surface relatively to other such matter; second, telling other people to do so.

Yes, all the jewel boxes here are PC versions. The reason for that is that consoles are not popular here and in Russia now. At the times of Sega Genesis people had consoles, but not anymore. I think the last popular console here was Sony Playstation. The most used gaming platform is PC, therefore there's no point in releasing special versions for consoles, as nobody will buy them anyway.
Too bad they haven't released FFIX and FFX on PC yet ...

They might not bother either.FF9s been out too long, if there was a conversion planed it would be out by now. Work is of two kinds: first, altering the position of matter at or near the earth's surface relatively to other such matter; second, telling other people to do so.

I'll spend $50 on a game if it's supposed to be really good. However, I tend to wait until they're down to about $30.

Yeah, most of the stuff we have here is pirated too. Actually i can buy any game for $3/CD. 100% it's working if you know what to take and what you shouldn't. Now, i prefer to download game ISOs through IRC though and burn them on CD-Writer. As a result I have 100+ games in my collection... Whenever I really like a game, I go and buy it. That is if they sell the legal copies of that game here...

That would make $30 US not a crazy amount to spend at all, since we are not buying pirated games. Also, you live somewhere different, so that kinda changes things.
