Like most "b" Horror films, the acting was not "Oscar-worthy", but the situations, gore, and nudity were definitely up to the standard. Who watches horror films for the acting?

I loved Cabin Fever because it made me think of the old days when horror films were fun and gory. The 80s.

But mostly, I loved Cabin Fever because of the homages to other great horror films found throughout (Deliverance, Evil Dead, Night of the Living Dead, Last House on the Left, and The Thing).

Rest assured, this film is NOT for everyone. This film is for major horror movie fans. So if you didn't catch all of the homages, subtle genre winks, and gratuity, then perhaps you're just not part of the audience this film was made for. No need to pout just because you were left out.

But the premise can easily be obtained from the summary I gave. People really don't trust other people.

This is the same premise, or assumption, that films like The Thing have made. Fear is distrust and vice versa.

So blah.

People really don't trust other people?

Sorry, that's just too weak.

And that to me, is the mark of a poor film.
I like a premise to make me think, prove a point that could so easily go the other way, and not point out the obvious. The film or book has to prove a premise, as uncomfortable as that may be.

I hate the premise of 1984 for that very reason. Sure, resistance is futile, but I don't want it to be.

One flew Over The Cuckoo's nest is one of my favourite films of all time, as it proves that even in the most repressing situation, spirit can win out.
Jack my get smothered, but his spirit lives on in the chief. It could so easily have not been that way.

The Godfather is another classic example as it proves that family loyalty can lead to a life of crime. How hard is that to prove without painting everything black and white!
But Puzo did it.

I doth my cap to him.

Ok. Your argument here is that dramatic, huge, Hollywood production films have better writing than "b" horror movies. Gotcha.

What I'm saying is that this was good for a "b" horror film. I like horror films, and so I liked this film.

No.
I just picked some films that I assume many people have seen, and so can easily relate to the point I'm trying to prove. If I picked obscure films my point could have been lost.

And I truly believe there are some great horror films out there, not all of them big budget. In fact, with horror, I think if you put too much money into it, execs get scared it won't recoup, and try to widen the appeal, turning it to crap.

The original Vanishing was cheap and fucking amazing, for example.
Even the American remake was good.

Errr, let me see.

OK, I really like most of 28 Days Later, especially the photography.

You have the same disease and situation, but it has to work harder as the premise is more about trusting when it's the hardest thing to do.

I thought that the premise of 28 Days Later was more about starting over. It seemed to me that trust came pretty easy for the central character. That came as a bit of a consequence when he got into that military base.

I didn't really see starting over. They had no choice. That was to me more the basic element, rather than the premise.

They were desperate to find other humans, get out of the country, even though they knew other countries might bomb them, isolate them. And the girls always wanted to remain insular. Jim was basically just a catalyst for the others and their fears.
The dad showed his basic faith in humanity not only by trusting the army, but also by signaling strangers in the first place.
I think the film was more about human relationships that the actual situation.

I've got to get up in the five hours.
Goodnight.

(Go rent The Vanishing! Kiefer Sutherland's the star of the American version.)

Ehhhhh Who gives a shit.... '28 Days Later' Sucked Ass. It is a shitty combo of a Romero film and Stephen Kings 'The Stand'. Throw in dialogue that consists primarily of the word 'Hello' so much so that they even make it a joke in the movie and you have a shitty-ass flick.

As far as the argument is concerned....'28 Days Later' along with 'Cabin Fever' deals heavily in trust in your fellow man, just like Kain said. And if you like the fact that '28 Days Later' was IYO about human relationships than you should have loved 'Cabin Fever'... that was the whole fuckin 'PREMISE' of that film.

The only difference is that 'Cabin Fever' is a dark comedy and '28 Days Later' is overly serious. If you simply look at the end of 'Cabin Fever' you will see that the events that took place over the course of the movie are going to lead to a nationwide pandemic JUST like in '28 Days Later'. So choosing a film to like of these two, I'll go for the one with humor-tits-more gore-and cursing. 'Cabin Fever'

Plus the DVD has great bonus features.

Kain didn't say 28 days later was about trust!
I said that!
He said it was about starting over, and he said that One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest and 1984 were big budget productions!
One Flew.... was a play that very nearly didn't get made!
The only reason 1984 was brilliant was because it comes from a brilliant book.

And Jesus, if I realised that films were only to be judged on their tits-and-gore content, I never would have entered this little boy's only debate in the first place.

so you're sayin' a film needs a premise and must accurately justify said premise in order to be a great flick?

a premise is only needed if there's an actual theme to the plot.....

today, post-modern has kinda took this notion and thrown it out the window, hopin' to prove that not only is a premise not needed, themes are total shit......life doesn't always seem to have a theme.....things just are....

what most B-horror flicks try to do is just take post-modernism and add a plot to it, as well as some other cliches (like tits and gore content).......itz just all in good fun.....fuck a premise, fuck a theme, lets just watch some big tit naked bitch chop up people.....

but i can see what you're saying.....that aesthetic principles are indeed noteworthy, but that which has a premise has more to offer.....

Jeff Bridges is also in this one! I love his character, Barney Cousins. When I first saw the coming attractions for it on cable I thought it looked lame, but it is a really good flick!

It really was an excellet film, the Dutch orignal is so creepy. And the American one too, especially when he wakes up you know where (don't want to spoil the surprise for anyone who hasn't seen it.)
I think the fact they got the original Dutch director, George Sluizer, made sure of this.

Ahhh Sixxx, you have the gift of putting your point nicely and not pissing me off.
I agree, B-movies don't need a premise, and can be crappy and fun at the same time, I just thought those two were taking it all a bit seriously, judging the film by grown up quality standards, and still thinking it was good.

Can I adopt you? I have a spare room.

I never said that. I judge films on a huge varity of things, I was just saying that 'Cabin Fever' was a more entertaining movie than '28 Days Later' for those reasons. It was much more fun.
