I've seen both, and I'm a huge fan. I guess you have to have more of a flavor for the oddly psychological, though; it's by no means an ordinary psychology-of-war movie. Way more twisted than that. Also, having read "Heart of Darkness" (the story it's adapted from) helps. | |

there's always been a love it or hate it issue with apocalypse now, i personally love it with a passion. i think the original cut of the film that includes the napalming over the closing credits is by far the greatest version of the film, it's truly cinematic and anything but boring. the redux has some interesting new footage, but overall i think it destroys the mood and general flow of the film. i love the extra brando scene, though. it'd be cool to see something maybe in between the two cuts, and without that terrible love theme music in the plantation scene. | |
