recently, i came across a singer named Emiliana Torrini and her recording of the surreal yet haunting 'Gollum's Song,' which appears in the closing credits of 'The Two Towers.' for anyone who hasn't heard it, it is one of the saddest pieces ever. it really captures the true essence of the trauma that is Smeagol's existence or whatever remains of it. Torrini's etheral voice is a stark contrast from Gollum's raspy, weathered tone, but it works so well with the mood of his loneliness. by the end of the first listen, i was shaking and in tears. i know it's just a song, but it really makes me think that perhaps there is a shred of madness in all of us whether we acknowledge it or not. Gollum is truly a morose soul, and his song is just as heartbreaking.

its well written and the words and music fit gollum's story very well, but i think the girl they chose would have been singing better in a bond film than lord of the rings. very pretty song though.
