I absolutely loved this movie.
I apparently watch movies "weirdly" because I can come out of a movie saying "Wow that movie was great, it totally involved me" or I can come out of a movie saying "Wow that movie was great..." This one definitely is the latter. I wouldn't say it was "great" in terns of storyline, because I simply do not believe in what it is trying to get across. It had some seriously wicked cinematography & effects however... I'll admit a couple of them were completely cheesy (like the face in the clouds) but I walked out there knowing that if I ever watch that movie again, and scry, I will likely see MANY MANY MANY missed things, its one of those movies that's simply obviously very full of 'hidden images' which add to the effect, and its pulled off amazingly well. It had its "comic relief" moment in the middle where the father is explaining "What happened when Father Moore arrived" ...to the courtroom, and he states "Father Moore had arrived, so I sent my youngest daughter up to get Emily" ...and while he's talking, its showing the scene of the youngest daughter "going to get Emily" and I mean... the girl is TINY. Our whole row cracked up laughing SO hard because you're left with the impression of "Way to go, tough guy...send the kid" And I also loved the movie because it answered a question I have had ever since I saw Constantine.
I've been wondering, "What is with this rash of 'religious' oriented movies?" I mean, think about it. Dogma, Stigmata, End of Days, Constantine, etc etc... there's a LOT of them which have come up in the last 10 or so years, and I was trying to figure out why. I mean, they've gotta be pretty offensive to the really religious people out there, using the lords "image" or whatever in vain... and non-religious people wouldn't care, and they hardly qualify has quality entertainment... so why are they being made???
Exorcism of Emily Rose answers that question... rather clearly in fact. If you haven't seen it, watch it with that question in mind. If you have seen it, you probably can figure out what I'm talking about |
