Well, I was hoping to watch a good movie tonight... perhaps my hopes were too high. Children of Men, while based on an amazing book by P.D. James, was a flaming pile of shit.

The story's premise is a good one, but like most other book-turned-movie it is weighed down by irrelevant back story and dreadful acting. Clive Owen had several scenes that sounded like it was the first time he had read the script. Julianne Moore (while Über-hot in post-apocalyptic squalor) did a piss poor job of convincing me that she was a leader of a rebellion. The girl who played the mother of the child, Claire-Hope Ashitey, was some unknown actress who looked confused through the entire film. The only saving grace in the movie was Michael Caine, who played a pot-dealing hippy. (good to know you can still find decent shrubs in dystopia) However his role is short lived.

The graphics were shotty at best, and the plausibility of many scenes is questionable.

Overall I give it a 3/10…. Because Julianne Moore is one sexified redhead.

Interesting the mixed reviews i've heard on this movie. Some people think its the best one in years, others despise it. Guess I'll have to see for myself.

don't bother if you have read the book, if not... it may be better for you.

I was excited to see the movie too, I thought the premise was very promising, but it was very poorly executed. There wasn't much STORY... it was all special effects and running. And yes, Michael Caine saved the movie. Overall, I thought the idea of the movie was good, but now I'm going to have to read the book to really GET what the movie was trying to say. I also give it 3 out of 10. Lame.

same here. i have friends that say it's the best film of the year and then others that said it was horse shit. usually when they're split down the middle like that i wait for the DVD.

That sucks. I remember seeing the trailer when I saw that Robin Williams movie where he runs for president. I thought the premise was kind of neat.

And I <3 some Clive Owen. This will be a DVD movie I guess. How disappointing.
