My girlfriend and I both love Billy Joel independantly of each other, which is odd because I listen almost exclusively to melodic death metal. My dad brought me up on him, though, and I still think his songs are great.
It's kind of odd but music creates bonds between people. I'm bonded to my dad and girlfreind via Joel, my brother through Faith No More and my mom listens to a lot of the stuff I like.
I'll agree Pianoman is pretty damn depressing, but by far the most depressing song by Billy Joel is Allentown. It's even more so because it doesn't even sound depressing at first but you listen to the lyrics, and then they click with the melody, and it sends me into a rapidly descending spiral of sadness descending into the uttermost pits of Hell. Or something. Really sad song.
When people talk of the freedom of writing, speaking or thinking I cannot choose but laugh. No such thing ever existed. No such thing now exists; but I hope it will exist. But it must be hundreds of years after you and I shall write and speak no more.
