I don't know about y'all, but I'm always on the hunt for new bands. Some I stumble across are decent, some really good . . . but there are those few that I just completely obsess about . . .

The two bands I can't seem to get enough of at this time are Finland's Moonsorrow and Germany's Nocte Obducta.

Moonsorrow is, in my opinion, the best folk/pagan/black metal band out there. Out of that whole folk/viking/epic/blah-blah-blah movement, they're the only band that doesn't come across as hokey. Their latest album to come out only has 2 songs on it, each running about 30 minutes in length. Awesome epic composition . . .

Nocte Obducta is a must for black metal fans . . . although it's not in the same realm as most black metal bands. They're somewhat progressive in their approach, songs lasting 10 minutes, with very soft, melodic, even funky break downs. An awesome band overall.



What bands have you been obsessing about lately?

Motley Crue. I always have been obsessed and I always will be.
But more recently I have developed an obsession with Deathstars.

Nick Cave. My iPod is 100%. I've loaded five Nick Cave CDs so far with six more to go.

Yeah, I could never really get into Nick Cave either . . . but a lot of my friends are absolutely obsessed with him. Me, I'm more of a Tom Waits sort of guy.

Nick Cave's songs take a few listens at first, then they just get better and better the more you hear them.

I can't get into him, i'd rather listen to Leonard Cohen

The Frames and Tool are my obsession, piece and out.

I love music and all kinds of it. Maybe its just me, but most things I come across just haven't been all that thrilling. I really miss that butterflies-in-your-stomach sorta feeling when all my favorite artists were due for new releases...or the "crush" feeling of discovering a new band and having to know everything about them.

I can't wait to see what the next new trends in music will be, as the current ones have become stagnant.

Well, during the holidays, i was having lots of fun with the original rat-pack christmas music..
Now i'm just fumbling through different things to fit my mood atm..

ooo, that sounds fun. I discovered some cool Big Band stuff while making CDs for my grandfathers 93 birthday party.

I would still have to say, after all this time, the only bands I have ever obsessed about would be After Forever & Epica. Maybe Tristania too.

the only band i've been remotely obsessing with lately is maylene and the sons of disaster. there are a few other bands that have hard southern rock riffs, but MATSOD without a doubt owns that sound.

I checked them out recently too. Black metal isn't really my thing (more thrash and melodeath personally) but they're pretty good.

For me, Slayer and Arch Enemy are my current favs, although only Arch Enemy with Angela Gossow as their vocalist, as Johan Liiva was horrid.

Cradle of Filth, ever since first listening to their music ... it's basically all I ever feel like listening to most of the time.
