Well there I was last night grinding out Lower Blackrock Spire. Anyway I noticed the guild had been updating ranks, everyone got an update except me Now I know youre probably thinking, well duh Billy youre such a damned prick on DF that youre probably like that there too. Not true. I tend to go out of my way to be helpful in WoW especially to lesser leveled players. Anyway. There is an officer in the guild a reacl cock sucking mother fucking bastard. Hes actually a 50 year old man who plays a female gnome. I know this because Ive spoken to him on ventrillo.

Anyway he is trying to sabotage me I believe in the guild, not enough that people wont quest with me or ask for help or enough to get me kicked, but enough to make it s I cant advance. I have it from some sources that he was telling everyone that he was lending me gold in game and I neve rpaid him back. (a total fabrication) Apparently he is doing this to get at me. I couldnt figure out why until the other day. Apparently his good friend (a girl he likes) in our guild some ugly zombie looking French Canadian left the guild one day after she finished getting every set item she needed in MC. I said in the chat that if she tries to come back we should strip her of her raid points. Apparently THAT is when this fucking cocksucker decided to start going after me. Apparently he likes her you see.

Anyway. Like I said I go out of my way to be helpful and in order ot try and get over his sabotage I had spent the last month with perfect raid attendance and helping lowbies and pumping out potions for the guild raids. To no avail. Some of the officers really like me, but this one cocksucker the fat loach he is has senority so he trumps it every time. And if he cant he makes up lies.

Last night like I said they were handing out new rank and I was passed over for people who barely ever sign on. Which really really pissed me off at that point. I was ultra pissed off over it actually. I didnt do anything about it though because there is no point. Anyway I was about 2 seconds form smashing something when a thought occured to me. Its just a game... a long waste of time. Then another thought hit me. QUIT. Quit WOW. And it was the most rewarding feeling I had since I started playing last year. I have some 600 hours played on this 1 character alone. probably another 500 on my last one. Of my life. Gone forever. And what to show for it? 10 pounds of fat and I think my eyes have gotten worse from playing so much.

I spent the whole night thinking about all the shit I could be doing at night instead of playing WoW. Fucking my girlfriend... working out. drinking. hanging out with my brothers. Taking trips to the city. Writing a book. So very very much.

Well as most addicts have to do, I realize that WoW is not a very good force in my life. And considering that you cant play it for an hour or 2 per week Ive decided that in my interests the only thing to do is to quit WoW. Tonight my account goes up for Auction on ebay. If it doesnt sell by January. I will be giving it away. And I figure this is as good a place as any to do that. So if I dont sell it by Jan 1st I am going to maybe have Antihero think up some cool contest or some shit for this section and the prize will be my account, decked out in full epics, ultra alchemy skillz and decent PVP rank.

I havent talked this over with Anti yet so maybe he wont do it. In which case I will have to do it elsewhere. But hey who knows. Antihero let me know.

Dont get me wrong I love WoW its a phenominal game. However Its too addicting and I cant let myself do it anymore because I just dont feel like I am accomplishing enough in my real life. I play something like 40 hours a week... thats a full time job.

That is a lot of time.... I spend nowhere near 40 a week playing...

That's admirable, dude. I quit for a time too, but I don't feel as pressured to play, since I'm not in a full-on serious guild; I just play in a fun guild with 4 of my friends. I play 4 or 5 days a week, and maybe 4 hours at a time... something like that. I usually get bored after so many quests, and have to take a break.

I think I didn't cut WoW out of my life entirely is because sometimes, it's what I want to do. Sure, there are other things I could be doing, but I count WoW as one of those things I can do. If I want to go out, I'll go out. But, if I'm doing something and feel like quitting it and playing WoW - as it is a hobby of mine - then I'm all for it. Fun is fun, after all.

I suppose it gets bad when the game prevents you from doing things you want to do. If you want to go violate your woman, but the game keeps you tethered to your chair, then yeah, it's best to turn it off. But, since you were in a hardcore guild with a complex raid system and "mandatory" attendance and all that, I think it would be a lot worse. I think a reasonable alternative to quitting would just be to change the way you play. It's worked wonders for me. But, if you don't think that's something you can do, then you made the right call for sure. Congrats, brother.

No, im done Ryan. DONE. I am not the kind of person who can go casual at anything. I once smoked an ounce of weed in 2 or 3 days... by myself. I cant do this anymore. I have to escape. I love the game and all that but its been nothing but bad for me and my type of personality. I am not as strong willed, I cant just sit down and say ok im gonna play for an hour or 2 and then go out. I get into it and stick at it for 5 or 6 hours per night. I think there is no half way here for me. I am either in or out. And I choose out because I am tired of going home from work and logging in and the next time I am away from my computer is somewhere around 1 AM when I am crawling off to bed. Another day of my life frittered away.

I have decided I am going to only stick to console games from now on because they are much easier to put down without the whole internet factor or MMO factor.

Which is why I am saying. Maybe you can hold a contest and the winner can have it. I will have to take out my personal info 1st and close the account down. But it will all be there when its turned back on. I think itd be a good promotion for the game forum.

No, I know what you mean. To be honest, it has been getting in my way too, though not quite as seriously. For one, it's preventing me from playing other games I have so many that need to be played (Indigo Prophecy, Far Cry Instincts, Ratchet: Deadlocked, etc.), but I always end up on the 'Craft.
