me and my bf have been together a yr and a half
recently my old house has been sold and were staying at a friend of his until our new place is ready when me and him first moved in together i must have spent hundreds of dollars on clothes for him that fit him perfectly well...and these last few months hes dropped so much weight a belt wont even hold his pants up ive also wonder how he'd eat so damn much and not gain a inch i mean he can binge all day and not be full ever and now hes to the point were i can almost see every bone in his body well a few days ago i came home and brought him something to eat on my lunch break and caught him pukeing it up in the bathroom i was so mad i left the house and didnt come home until that evening when he finally confessed he is bulimic and was afraid to tell me .....well i guess this has been going on since we've been together and i never knew until now where its so hard to hide at a friends house...he refuses to go to the doc- with me and says the only thing they can do is make him eat...that only i can help him and i dont know if hes done it these last to days even though he said he didnt but im worried and want him to get better should i call someone anyway or what can i do to make it better...

You cannot help him until he wants help.. It is just like drugs, alchohol, ect..

you can ask him -gently- about it, when it started, why he feels the need, ect. But if you push him, he'll clam up, get angry, or bolt.. As i am always fond of stating, I am not there, i do not know him personally, so i cannot say further..

I'd suggest that you research bulimia on the internet. Find out all about it. I mean everyone has a general idea but it is important, if you are going to try and understand what he's going through to know as much as you can about his problem. It may be important when helping him to be able to spot signs. It may also be important so you can judge any emergancy problems.

My boyfriend is bulimic too. Well, at least now we are working on it, and he is managing to eat without throughing it up. And yes you cannot help him unless he wants to help himself. But what you can do is to talk with him try to find out what is bothering him so much. Some people get bulimia because they think they are fat, but some people have really serious personal problems that are eating the from inside. If he thinks he`s fat you`ll need lot of patience to covice him that he is not. If he has problems you have to make him be open with you. But in any case the best thing would be to ask advice from psychologist or psychiatrist. They can give you the best advice in things like this. And one more thing your boyfriend will need a lot of suport from you and to know that even with all that you still love him.

There are a lot of support groups and help lines for this on the internet and you may well be able to find out about some from round your local area to help you with this because the thing with these type of situations is that the person who is doing it often affects people around them without even knowing. You will need support for this too to help him get through it. Its good that he has taken his first step forward by admitting to you that he has a problem. You just need to stick with him through this. These type of situations as with every mental problem, takes time. He's got into a routine now and he needs to break that routine. Bulimia can be a form of OCD and can go too far. As other people have said in this thread the only thing you can really do is try and give advice to him and not pushing him into going to see anyone, you have to wait until he is ready to do this and Im sure with your support it will speed up the process. I can't tell you much more than that as I have experience but I am not an expert on the matter. All I can say is good luck and I hope he can be n the road to recovery soon.
