in chorus. instead of our nice robes, the girls have to wear fucking dresses! fucking formal dresses! i WILL NOT wear a dress. if i wanted to wear a dress, i'd go to a fucking formal dance! i'm not going up on stage to look pretty-i'm there to sing! hell, i'd be more comfortable in a tux than i would in a dress. this is so fucking sexist! i'm really frustrated about this and don't know where to turn for advice, any good suggestions?

ask if you can wear a trouser suit. The argument is that it is just as smart as what any male is wearing. And plus if your on stage you could say that a sress it totally out of the question from a health and safety point of view because of the dress getting caught. There we go

I really doubt that when they told you they said, “Because you are girls you have to wear dresses” if they did then I agree.
But one thing I think that girls/women have to learn is that not everything that is not fair is sexist. Such as at our school girls/women are not allowed to teach certain classes or make some speeches, why because they are girls/women. This is not fair but no one complains, its just the way it is.
I also wouldn’t run around putting yourself with the feminists because they are really not a good group to be a part of (in my opinion) They are avid complainers and constant annoyances. One thing I am waiting to see is a group of men who complain because of the unfair treatment put at them, I have never heard of such a group I wouldn’t doubt that one exists though it isn’t like men are always treated fairly. In conclusion life isn’t fair live with it.

Chances are you'll probably be able to wear a tux like guys if you insist, but I wouldn't make too much of a deal about this. As far as sexism goes, this is a very minor case.

Seriously though, is there anyone else in the chorus that has a problem with this? If the rest of the group is willing to go along with this plan, having you wearing something drastically different may simply put the spotlight on you...which is fine if you have a solo part, but not if its supposed to be a group effort.

I'd say best bet is to talk to the other women in the choir about it and see if you can't sway people to your way of thinking.

I'm like you I don't like to wear a dress. Because that is how I am. All I just like to wear is nothing but jeans and a t-shirt right along with a pair of boots.


But it isn't so bad to wear a dress every know and then. It's also nice when people give you a nice complament when a lady such as your self is wearing a dress. If I were to see you wearing a dress. I will say that you look beautiful right away. Just wear the dress and it's only for that one time. Then when your concert is done you can take it off and go back to your regular clothes. It's only for one time that you will have to wear a dress.

In our private school women are not allowed to teach religion they are also not to adress the student body in gatherings(of religious types).

I was in chorus for ten years. In Jr. High, we wore robes. In High school/college, I was in the madrigal choir and quite happy that we wore formals. The robes make you look like giant fruit.

What kind of gimp school did you go to? Not allowed to teach religion or address an assembly? Is there a reason for that or is it just a "given" that men are holier.
