Several other parents I know have had nipple piercings and have been prevented from breast feeding by the scar tissue that forms post-piercing.
In the case of severe infection it has been known for the milk ducts to become blocked and this would again prevent breast feeding.
Bottle feeding really isnt that bad for the baby.

it all depends on how well the piercing has been done. there should be no problem at all if done correctly. since you have two years, get to know the local piercers and see who does them the with the fewest problems. also, it takes a long time for nipples to heal so you have to keep on top of things to make sure you're always clean & infection free.
imagine the lucky baby: a teething ring and food source in one, hehe
I have had both nipples pierced for over 6 months and I guess my advice to you would be the same as with any piercing, find a clean place, be compfortable with your piercist, ask any questions you have beforehand, and keep them very clean. They wont scar is you clean them with liquid antibacterial soap and you shouldnt breatfeed with them in because of the choking hazard the capture beads become.

I guess it's different for different people but all the things i've read says that if you breast feed that you shouldnt have pierced nipples...but it's a personal choice only really you can make.

speaking of piercings..
This doesn't have to do with the nipples, but.. I got my labret (well, lip) pierced about 4 weeks ago. The gal pierced me with a 16 gauge 3/8" disc-back, which is longer then normal, to give room for swelling. Its not swollen anymore, it hasn't been since about 4 days after I got it. The lady told me to keep it in for 2 or 3 months, that's fine.
But when I DO get a shorter one that doesn't rub up on my gums.. what size is that? I'll keep it 16 gauge, but what is the next smallest size down from a 3/8? I have no idea what size I need to get when its all completely healed. Help!

Well the first week or so it is possible for that area to swell and go down again, but I'd reckon after two weeks you should be able to size down. As for the actual sizes, that you honestly need to speak to a piercer with. Have a look at the jewelry and discuss it with her. Labret is way below the lip, it's the crease between the chin and the lip, so did you get your lip pierced or did you get a labret? Because healing time may differ.
As for breastfeeding and pierced nipples, I'd say speak to a reputable piercer and get as much info on it as you can before you decide on doing it. Piercings always leave scars, no matter what scar tissue will form, so that may very well affect being able to breastfeed.
