well it's positive, the middle of june we're heading to lake placid florida...and i've never, ever moved like this before...any advice on how to make the move smooth...driving from montana to florida with two children in the back! A lot of stuff we need to load into a trailer and haul down with us..getting situated! we're going through a bunch of stuff and have a yard sale planned to get rid of a majority of stuff...but i just...it's rather an unknown thrill right now...and need some path..any advice? please?

Yes, rope and duct tape for the kids, get a BIG trailer, and have fun. I'm sorry, I can't really help more than that. Oh, watch out for the alligators that the old lady feeds in the documentary movie "Lake Placid"

pack stuff per room, not all the glasses together and all the books together, but pack stuff per room

you might have a bit more boxes then (might even not) but it is so much easier with unpacking and organising stuff...

and for the driving.... *has some tie rips and ballgags to spare* for the kids that is.....

and get some big strong people to help you haul all the stuff over.....when we move all my friends get invited, my mom makes a big pot of soup and lots of bread and we all have a good time

Before you go, take the kids to the park for a play and run around, tire them out completely. No sugary foods or drinks. Hopefully they will sleep on the way or at least be subdued.

Try not to make too many stops on the way, and if you do make sure they are quick ones. Im not hot on my US geography but im guessing its going to be a long ride so take provisions.

We are going room by room already, and won't be taking our dishes or any other overly heavy items...our entertainment center and pc of course...but most everything else we're selling...

i've tried having her change diapers...she just can't get the tape right...i think she'll like it in florida too...i just hope the shools are good...

now we have to tell my mom she has a few months to get her stuff at our house i don't think it'll happen and she won't be happy, if she's unable to it's going to the yard sale too. There's a lot of antique crystal...so someone will be getting amazing deals on that sort of stuff...

lol, if you want good schools move ot new england, youre going to be getting another Bush as your govoner which means schooling is a bottom priority LOL.

well if you are going to be driving on this trip. keep your kids busy with coloring books and maybe game boy or what ever it is that there into. if you get tired of driving then have your husband take over. i know how you feel. i always get nervous when i go out of town with my parents since all of us like to drive. it does get a person nervous. so don't think about anything that is bad. i hope that you have a safe trip. don't worry to much about the u hall either. also carry a gun with you. my dad always brings a gun with us when we drive some where.

oh yes i forgot another thing. you don't have to really drive down there all day. you will tire your selves out like. just drive as far as you can get in one day and stop at a hotel room and rest. then the next day you guys can wake up early and make it there by the next day.

when my aunt takes my 5 and 2 year old cousins on long car rides, she has a portable tv and vcr to entertain them with. she told me that it keeps them pretty quiet for the most part.

having moved only 9 times and having lived in florida a mere 6 years hardly qualifies me to provie any help but i'll try.
first, you know your kids better than i do, so just pay attention to their needs and stop when they really really need to pee. as far as selling almost everything so you don't have to bring it down, that's a perfect plan, especially when the move is cross country and there's a better possibility of you wrecking and losing everything in the process. better to sell it now and start anew.
the most important thing is once you arrive in florida, to get your children to forget about the move as quickly as possible by introducing them to as many new friends as possible. gators are a hazard, sure, but i survived, so i wouldn't be at all paranoid about them if i were you. and also, people in florida always lock their doors and generally stick to themselves.

well, lastly i'll say congratulations... i'm glad you finally came to your senses and moved south. snow is nice but i hate living in it.
