Ok need some legal advice here and NO you can not chare me . Anywayz I work at a local grocery store and they have all these sexist rules. Let me list them
1. Girls can not do carts (bring them in)
2. Girls DO not have to tuck there shirts in
3. Guys can't do tags (price tags)
4. Guys can't do trash (only girls can)

Ok not lets get into the meat of this. There are many more girls then guys there. So even when girls WANT to do carts they will not let them and force me too. Now this would not bother me if I did not have ashma (sp?) and Photosensitivity. I mean I go out there and its horriable I itch like crazy and can harld breath. So I tell them and they say "well you the only one who can do it". Now mind you there is someone else who has a slight heart condition but they don't even let him do it. Just the other day I passed out cause they would not let me take a break and I could not breath. As soon as I woke up they put me back out. I was sick the rest of the day. Is this legel? its just seems that there are better ways to handle this.

there's probably some technicality that lets them do that... either that or they just fire anyone who bitches about it.. (which wouldn't surprise me...)

That is really bad. Have you been to your GP about it because surely he could write you a note to the boss to expel you from doing things that put your health in danger. I don't know why you stick at the job because you are obviously not suited to it and I think if you were in another job you would be happier. This is only friendly advice. Have you tried looking up on the rules of sexism and health risks in working places on the internet ?

Nope. Not legal. Under no circumstances may a job limit someone because of gender, age, race, sexuall prefrence, etc. Bring it up. Shoot them down.

Hey - check with the union before you do anything, if they wrote it into the contract, then it is legal for sure.

Otherwise, call the board of labor in your state/county and see what they say.

Unions are always a good thing...I learned that the hard way. I used to work in a grocery store beside school, I had a contract for 30 hours a week. (that way they didnt have to pay overtime...sly bastards) What I didn't know was, with that contract, I was entitled to be paid for at least 30 hours a week no matter if I worked or not...and I could refuse to work more. Instead I busted my butt with 70 hours a week one month and got nothing at all the next...I hate grocery stores.

Gah... talk to a lawyer! It's not that difficult to pick up the phone, and get a free consultation (any good lawyer only gets paid if they win).
