I don't know what to do. I want to get help because I have been depressed lately and have thought of suicide. I don't like feeling this way and I want to be committed. The problem is that I don't want my parents to get mad at me for going. Not only that I have school and job to attend. What can I do.

speak with your school counselor...they may be able to intercede with your parents for you, if you have a family doctor, talk to him too...it's a good sign you are asking for help...i'm sure your parents will be more concerned for your safety than a possibility of you becoming harmed...

i can relate top you very well. i've been going through the same thing. in some ways, i didn't want to tell my mom because i thought she'd be angry and immediately committ me and i was ashamed of admitting that i had a problem (i also self mutilate). i finally told my mom about it. she wasn't angry, just very concerned. i have had the same fear of getting committed. when it started to get bad, i stopped doing my homework and alienated myself from my friends and family. this isn't healthy AT ALL. the only thing that i can tell you is that you'll only get committed if you're a threat to yourself or others around you. don't be afraid to tell your parents, you'll be glad you did in the long run.

hello i am very sorry you are so down, and one way (if you want to be commited) is tell a friend to talk to your parents; i did this; i ran away for 2 days and had a good friend of mine fill my parents in; they did not punish me at all for they were more concerned than anything. they commited me for about a year where i had all my schooling brought to me at the center and i am now ahead of my class because there were no destractions at cross creek. i got help in many ways; from peers and doctors and my parents. this is currently where my parents sent my sister but for very different reasons. the downside of this school is that it is very expensive; but it saved my life from self mutalation and eating disorders and now i am very happy and satisfied with my life. now im not shure if that helped on any level..but i honestly dont think your parents will get mad, i actually think they will be proud of you for asking for their help for it is very difficult to face your own problems. i hope this at least shed a little light on a solution...if you have any questions feel free to PM me at any time!

Silverflame is right. Do not alienate yourself. It makes things harder to get back to normal when you feel better. And eventually you WILL feel better. getting committed isnt something to be ashamed of. And if its something that needs to be done, you cant be bothered to worry about school and work. Take a leave of absence and get your school work like midnights did. *hugglez* good luck

Did you tell your parents yet? I know u dont want to...But if u dont, in the end its just goin to make them even more mad...Trust me...My parents hated me for about 2 months cuz i never told them what was wrong with me. I never did get help tho...Until about a month ago...And they wouldnt of been as mad at me if i had gotten the help...It would of showed them that i do want help and that i am a strong person. Yes they would have been mad but just becuz of what is in my mind. I can totally relate to u...Kinda i guess...but for me suicide is in my mind every sec i am up. I guess even when i am sleeping..cuz lately i have been having very bad dreams...Well i just wanted to see how u were doing..And hang in there...*hugs u* Take care hun.

Like many here, I too, can empathise strongly with your present life situation. Many people, at sometime in their lives, recognise that they may be living with depression and need help...but never seek it. In my own personal life experience, and from counselling young people, -asking for or considering help for yourself is a strength and not a weakness. It is a gift of opportunity. There may well be any number of ppl around you, who will be more than happy to help...often just toi listen....Yet, they can only do that, if you ask. Sometimes people who are depressed push the people closest to them away because they are scrared of becoming a burden, or of dumping on them. In my more recent experience of depression, I found that surrounding myself with good, kind , caring ppl sure helped me feel as if I were less alone. Most important, they helped me see that I didn't need to do this alone again.. One person in particular was crucial to my recovery. He didn't judge...he was just there.
